22 dollars just for the delivery???

It's my sister's birthday and I looked online for flowers. FTD and 1-800-flowers want 22 dollars just to deliver them!!! That is about as much as the flowers themselves. Forget that.

I messaged my nephew and asked him to get some flowers in his city and take them to her.

What do you do when you want to send flowers? No free delivery online.

check online florists in her area, call them and have them locally delivered! thats what i do, and yea, they charge a delivery fee, but usually no more than about $5-7$ and also you are supporting their local economy good luck!

Thanks, that is what I will do next time. I was trying to get pts from a pt program and those were all the flower companies they had.

Oh well, if my nephew will do it for me it will be 0 shipping. YES!

Call a florist that is in her city.

I always google the city and then florists. Much easier and cheaper and I don't use FTD as they are so overpriced it is not funny.

Not flowers but.....if you belong to Costco, they have gift baskets and the shipping is included.... http://www.costco.com/Common/Categor...349&lang=en-US I do this for Christmas and it works out well.

Sometimes I feel like sending myself one! http://www.costco.com/Common/Categor...726&lang=en-US

    BJ's does it too. http://www.bjs.com/webapp/wcs/stores...ds=gift+basket

Thats a good idea. I don't have a Costco but she does.

I did buy 2 lipsticks at Walgreens and sent them to her. Cost around 2 dollars to mail.

I don't know where FTD gets their flowers but they must ship them a very long distance for 22 dollars. I thought they called a florist in the city the person lived and got the flowers there.

Well, my nephew can buy the flowers and see them personally to make sure they're pretty.

Yep, that's what I do too. I despise paying S&H..for anything.....such a bleeping ripoff!! There have been some things advertised on TV that I would really like but since I will not pay the S&H, I just won't get them....not that I have a big need or anything.

The stores have sections of "As seen on TV" items. Buy them there and pay no S&H. It's at Walgreens I know plus Bed, Bath & Beyond. I bought the Ped Egg there, etc.

I could be mistaken, but I thought I've read before that companies like FTD DO use local florists - that's why what you see in a picture may not be exactly what gets delivered - depending on local stock.

I have a feeling there are "middle men" involved in doing these things online and the extra fees have to get covered somewhere. It's usually in "shipping and handling". Just like "Ticketwaster", riduculous fees and charges just drive up the price of something.
