I separate laundry into three categories, white, colours, and darks, and for whites I always use the hottest water available when laundering, and very seldom do I not add bleach.
When my kids were little, diapers were always washed in the hottest water available then hung on the outdoor line to dry. Between the hot water washing, the bleach, and the natural sunlight, diapers always came off the line snow white.

I stopped separating clothes by what will fade and what won't if I don't have enough whites I add the do not fade to them, if not enough colors I add the do not fade couldn't careless to them, being retired, living in the sticks with a septic tank so I can only run a couple loads a day unless we get a lot of rain like right now where I'm not even doing a couple loads a day. Biggest issue, a box of dryer sheets fell into to the washer and I didn't see it until the load was done. I don't use it much anyway, now I don't use it at all, the white film all over the clothes reminded me of how much is on them after I get it out of the dryer. I don't like all the chemicals.
Keep your hands to yourself, leave other people's things alone, and be kind to one another.
