OMG do not use bleach AND oxyclean together.. It's dangerous!!!!!!
Can I use it with Chlorine Bleach?
No! Oxiclean is a bleach alternative and works by itself. Do not mix it with bleach as they will neutralize each other and can create dangerous gases and heat. If mixed in a poorly ventilated room, breathing the fumes created by this mixture can be fatal.

I bleach the whites on occassion and use clorox 2 for almost all others except jeans & darks.
Also occassionally use dishwasher detergent to soak the whites in hot.
I usually don't use fabric softner & I spray & wash/shout where needed.
Wow, that sounds complicated.
ETA: Sheets also get sorted for colors & textures. (cotton vs flannel & light vs dark)
I found years ago that the spray regular Fantastic works better and doesn't have the oils that Spray & Wash has. My brother even uses it on clothes he uses when working on his cars/motorcycle. Gets stuff out very well and is a lot cheaper.

I have a well. And we updated with a softner about 3-4 years ago but I use whink and it makes a BIG difference in helping whites stay white. It also works as a great stain remover!!
I only do three loads: whites, towels and darks. And sometimes I might wash my dh's clothes seperate if he gets his clothes nasty. lol

I have to use that Seventh Generation laundry soap in my whites. I can't use anything like whink in them. My husband gets a itchy rash when I use regular laundry detergent on his undergarments. I do use bleach on socks and kitchen towels and dish rags.

I always wash my whites in hot, it is the only thing I use hot for. I have to use iron out for some of my whites. I just dont have any real good white clothes anymore.
We live in the country and have a well, with the absolute worst water in the world. It is so full of iron. I have waist length natural strawberry blond hair. Used to have some gray strands, quite a few, they just blended in with the blond highlights. Now my hair is red and it has bright orange streaks through it. I hate it. Everybody says it looks good but I cant stand it. Whaen we went to Maine last summer for two weeks, my hair got back to normal from hotel water washings. I even had my gray back. I have tried the malibu treatments but they help very little and it dont last long. Anybody know anything that works?

Dirks, you sound like my nana. Everyone loves the smell of her laundry and wants it to smell just like hers... but when they hear what she does they realize they just are not that anal. First, she will ONLY wash with Wisk (although, I think they only make HE now and she said she was thinking she may have to start using Tide). She lets it go through the wash, then she backs it up to fill it with water, adds like a cup of liquid downy... lets it agitate to get all mixed in then lets it sit for 20 minutes. Then she spins it w/out rinsing the downy out. I used to do it like her but now the put the downy in the Tide and my clothes smell just like hers, just not quite as strong. I also use dryer sheets to boost the smell... but the long drawn out process she goes through is just waaaay too much work!
