If you dispute the charges you will have to file a police report. Would you honestly be able to testify against your son for $30? I know I couldn't. Then the credit card company will make your life miserable. Not worth it.
I would however make him do $60 in sweat equity plus repay the $30 & if he ever did it again he would be out of the house that day.

Police report = tax dollars
Court = tax dollars
credit card comapny = employee wages, etc.
Not only would she be spending lots of her time, effort and expense to pursue this in this manner, she would also be costing many others for this who have nothing to do with this issue.
I certainly wouldn't take that route. Use it as a lesson learned. Secure your cards, valuables & cash from him, it would be cheaper in every aspect (especially for others who have no part in this).

You don't have to file charges to dispute charges. We had 600 stolen off one of our cards... we *think* we know who took it but we lack proof. The bank told us it didn't matter if we knew or not because once they refund it, it becomes their responsibility to track down who did it. We just had to sign a paper giving them permission to do it. As far as we know they didn't even look... if they did, we weren't informed... the person we suspected did go to jail shortly after, but for selling drugs.

I believe it was her debit card and the bank is not going to do a darn thing since she has previously given him permission to use her card. In case no one has noticed she has not responded to any of these items and Carrolin has been on the site every day.

The problem with that is her son lives with her so even if you do disput it with the credit card they will rule against you. You will be told to take him to small claims court. It would cost her more than the $30 to file. The person who used your credit card wasn't related or living with you so there is a huge difference.
If it were my son he would be my personal attendant for months. Do you mind me asking why, at 22, he doesn't have $30 to buy his own pizza?

How does someone living with you make it not their responsibility... I'm sorry, but that's really the silliest thing I've heard today... of course the bank would refund her as well as issue her a new card.
The person we think stole from us... was a brother in law... so technically, he was part of the family.

Carrolin has given her son previous permission to use the card so that would get it thrown out of court - even by Judge Judy!! Since she had given him prior approval she would not be able to file a claim sorry but that is how it works. You do not KNOW who stole from you and you had not given the person permission to previously take the items/use the card that is why you were reimbursed by your bank. This obviously was a debit card not a credit card and it is much harder to get reimbursed from your bank especially if you still have the card and the person using it was someone in your house that you had previously let use the card. No matter how you slice it she is out the $ 30.00 and obviously it is not as big of a deal to her as it is to some others on this board as she hasn't commented on this since her original post.

That is just not true. Giving someone permission ONCE does not give someone indefinite permission...(and since you are siting her as a source... I HAVE seen Judge Judy, just last week, tell someone one time permission does not give someone limitless permission) let's be realistic. Is she going to get her money back? Probably not since she isn't likely to report it, which is her choice... that does NOT mean she wouldn't get her money back. The likely hood of it even going to court is zip to none... 30 bucks they would write off! The only reason I can see she wouldn't get it back is if they required her to cover the first fifty bucks, which would make it pointless.
And you do not need to highlight in red, underline and shout... I wasn't rude, you don't need to be either. I'm willing to admit I'm not an expert... but neither are you, despite how you would like us all to believe that. Who cares if she's responded... she's posted multiple times that she stays out of vent whine... maybe she just hasn't looked and isn't aware how to check through her settings... again, you are not the end all be all.

If she tried to report this to her bank they would first ask if she knew who used the card - when she say's yes they would say Who and have you EVER given them permission to use your card. Been there done that so Yes I do know what I am talking about. They would tell her to file a police report and sue him to get the $ 30.00 plus court costs back - but since he has no job and she isn't going to do it anyway she will have to live with the fact that she will not get that money back. She should get a new card but I guarantee that she won't and if she did she would end up giving him the pin number anyway. Unfortunately for her she has allowed him to take advantage of her a lot. No one can take advantage of you unless you allow them to and as we have seen before she allows it.
I was not being rude I was making a point that should have been made way before it got this far. I will put it in red if I choose to that is my choice. If you don't like it then there is always a back button you can use. She knows how to check for posts in threads she has been in - it doesn't take a rocket scientist and she has replied in other threads that she has started so that was my point. She just wanted a little sympathy and when it didn't come she didn't respond anymore. So have a nice day
