Madder than a hornet's nest
My son who is considered special needs due to "emotional disturbance" according to his school had a TSS up until the dumb school pulled her and lied to our BCS. I am now looking for an advocate and lawyer and seeing if I can get this straightened out.
Last Thursday, the special education teacher tells my husband that the TSS will be there in the morning and the PCA or teachers aide would be there to assist him in the afternoon. By Friday morning this changed to the PCA/teachers aide will be with him all day and no TSS. I only found out the TSS was pulled when the BCS called and said the school said they discussed pulling the tSS and they said you said it's ok. BULL!
Monday we call the principal to find out when we can arrange a meeting with him to get this all starighten out and he said he has meetings all day and he'll get back to us ASAP.
Today, he didn't call by 3pm, so I called him wanting to know what's going on with the meeting and he tells me that the LEA for our district is "booked solid" right now and we can't have a meeting without her.
I explained my concerns to him and how the school legally can't take the TSS out without our permission and he says "Call Mrs. -----." To boot my son's psychologist spoke to them on Monday and told them her concerns and the only one taking her serious;y is the guidance counselor.
I'm so angry it's unreal.
Thanks for listening.

We have had similar problems with our son and his school. Part of the problem is that the School Boards are having to slash budgets - and this is where some are doing it. Fight. The squeaky wheel will get the grease and the quiet meek ones will get left in the cold. Good Luck.

Thanks guys. The sad part is the TSS comes out of our pockets not the school's. That's another thing I don't understand.

(((prcsanglas))) Just keep complaining. I hope you can get results. It is even crazier that it is you paying for it and they did what they did. Good Luck! I'd have steam coming out my ears I'd be so mad. Keep us updated on what happens.

Magically, Mrs. ---- had an opening for tomorrow morning to meet with us. I did find out legally they can take his TSS because it's considered voluntary services under public school system. Let me tell you though they are gonna hear me out tomorrow whether they like it or not.
Waiting for the advocate agency to get back to me. His BSC can't be there as she has other obligations tomorrow.
Again thanks guys!

Well today I get a call from the school at 1030am and they tel me to come pic up my son or they are having him arrested. Mine you he's 6. Anyway, it turns out he hit a counselor and then kicked his principal once. The school says "he's totally out of control." But they are "just doing what's in his best interests."
I'm still fighting and if I have to I will file suit. Still waiting to hear from the advocate and I called her again on Monday, but they said she only comes in once a week to her office as she's in the field the rest of the week.
Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we go through this.

I guess everyone but me understands what a TSS and the other abbreviations you used. Fill me in.
6 seems awfully young to have that diagnoses. Six?

buglebe- sorry... didn't think about spelling out the abbreviations before cause I was so mad.
TSS- therapeutic support staff, someone that can come to school home and community events with the child and child's family
BCS- behavior consultant specialist- they are in charge of the tss and also do what are in the best interest of the child, do observations of the child at school with the tss and at home with parents
PCA- is known as a paraprofessional or teachers aide
LEA- local education agency usually your school's director of special education or a guidance counselor depends on the situation at hand
The school psychologist diagnosed him with "emotional disturbance" and they are trying to rule out adhd and odd. He already has a diagnosis of odd (oppositional defiance disorder) but the school won't recognize it since their psychologist won't diagnosis him with it. We have arranged our own private eval, but it's not until May 20th and then if we want we can provide it to the school in the hopes that they use it.
On another note, he went through heck with his bio mom for the first two years of his life and bio mom pops in and out whenever she sees fit. I think that maybe another reason the school psychologist labeled him with that label.
Any other questions feel free to ask.

Thank you, I understand why you are upset.

Yes, as you already said, I think it would be wise to take him to your own doctor and get him properly diagnosed, instead of the school. Then you can also get proper instructions for treatment and what to do and how to work with him. Then maybe the school will take it more seriously and work with you and your son together on these issues that he has.
I didn't know that the school was diagnosing him. In fact, I guess it's different in your area, because our school doesn't do that, they just tell us what he/she is doing and what all behavioural and learning problems that the child has, and then we take those concerns and issues to our own doctor.
I hope when you do take him in that the doctors will be able to help you and have wonderful treatment, and help, in dealing with the issues you are going through with your son.
Best of luck to you, and I hope you get to the main root of the problem.

Yike! I feel for you situation! The only area I can say I really know about is the testing. My DD -almost 13 has a genetic condition that has 189 things under it that might or might not affect her. She has had an IEP (Individual Education Plan) since kindergarten. The school has done their own testing to determine where she was functionally. btw- she is doing awesome. Last year my empolyers health insurance changed and in my quest to find new specialists, one of them asked for the results of psychological testing. I gave them the schools report and they said that is was not an actual test. I had her tested, $5,500 of which I paid $437. Took those results to the school and they would not just accept the testing without retesting with their own people. However, in the end Emily has even more services so I count it all as a win. AND- Emily has been on the honor roll last year and this year in Middle school. I could not be more proud of her! :-)
I totally recommend getting your child tested by your own doctors, but the schools still might not accept the results.
Good Luck and HUGS!! :-)
