I don't know the percentages, but a lot of people on death row are there for brutally killing other people so why give these people the easy way out? The people they killed didn't have it easy. JMHO
Who said anything about worrying about someone being hurt? Certainly not me... AND if we could guarantee that every person on death row was actually guilty (I don't even know the # of ppl who have been pulled off DR in my state in the last 2 years due to DNA evidence) and it was done IMMEDIATELY... I might would actually agree w/ your course of action. But in most cases ppl are found guilty based on eye witness accounts which are wrong a LOT of the time (doing research helps here).

At any rate. Just for the record... I think the death penalty is WAY too humane. I am not against the death penalty because I don't think ppl should suffer... I am against it because I don't think they suffer enough. As I have said many many many times before... anyone can go to jail and find God, most of them do... and being a Christian and knowing my God, I have to believe that if they genuinely ask for forgiveness that God WILL give it to them... so for me... I think it would be much more just to force them to sit in a cell w/ pictures of their victims until they either die old and gray or go crazy... either way is good enough for me... that's far more torturous than getting to go home to God.

Is my belief backwards to a lot of ppl... yeah... but that's ok... I still know that the fact remains that it costs significantly more money to put someone to death (the arguement in the original post) (pls consider the cost of the trial, which can and usually does costs in the millions of dollars range, as opposed to a non capitol murder trial which costs in the range of 50 grand, on top of the many many appeals and the cost to house them) than it does to house them forever. I am aware that these ppl are on death row for heinous crimes, I'm not stupid... but I've also done the research and the "cost" arguement does not hold water.

I think that every single person on Death Row be given a DNA test against the evidence used to attain their conviction. If it doesn't hold up, dismiss the Capitol charges and release or cummute the sentence ( this would have to be done on a case-by-case basis ), If the DNA evidence upholds the conviction, expediate the sentence.

I will agree with Justme and the fact that the technology was not here to conclusively determine some of these cases in the past... but it is available now. If the cost of the DNA test eleminates the rest of the spurious appeals it will save money in the long term and free those who where unjustly convicted.

I don't really care if it's more cost efficient to keep them alive or more of a punishment to make them live confined than put to death.

I really don't care about them, I just want them gone. They are useless. They do not deserve anymore of my time nor thought nor to take up space or oxygen. They no longer have a use other than to torment, make them a bad memory and let's move along.

If any of you have ever the program Locked up Abroad, you know how easy american prisioners have; most of the stuff that goes on in American prision is stuff the guys do themselves. Think about all the stuff the guys here in prison have.

I have mixed feelings on the DP. One part of me feels that we don't have the right to take another life but the other side of me feels that person did not give their victums a choice. They couldn't say don't shoot me because I had a horrible childhood & I abuse drugs.

If they are given life then make it FOR LIFE! I also think their cells should be plastered with the faces of their victums & their familes so they have to look at their faces every signle moment for the rest of their lives.

I personally believe we should just take certian criminals out. Death row has become a joke. You sit there way to long. Why put child molesters in protective custody? So they can sit there and think about how not to get caught next time. Put them in main population and they will be to busy watching their own ass to think about anything else. I laugh when I hear someones on suicide watch. Why after they commit a horrible crime they want to commit suicide? I say lets help them. Make cells designed with all the luxeries to help them along. Have you never seen "locked up" or "super max"? Yes, low level offenders sometimes have an easy ride... but ppl who are locked up for 23 hours a day don't have a whole lot besides basic cleaning of themselves necessities and pen and paper.

And did anyone watch Oprah on Tuesday? (I think it was Tuesday). Most of the victims wanted the person that killed their loved ones OFF death row. In a lot of these cases the families of the victims don't want the murderer on death row... why are THEIR feelings not considered... THEY are the VICTIMS!

I am sure the victims of their crimes would prefer that treatment then the sentence that was handed down by their killers ...

So ... if the victims' family want the person who killed their loved one to be boiled in oil; drawn and quartered or pulled apart by wild horses ... we should go with that too ? Can't have it both ways ... that is why we have panel of objective people to hear the evidence and pass the sentence. Not only do they have to hear all the evidence and make a finding of "guilty[/i], they then have to go thru a second hearing to determine if a capital verdict is appropriate. Only the most heinous crimes are even subject to a capital verdict and then it is deceided on by a jury... no is saying "everyone who jaywalks automaticly and immediately gets the death penalty.

i agree with one of the above posters-bullets are cheap-i say do a dna test to prove they did do the crime-then put them in front of a firing squad-
you see no-one gave the victims,a choice of how they wanted to die,or when,so the killers should not get a choice,i believe in an "eye for an eye"
yes god does forgive, but alot of these people have went to jail for numorous killings, rapes, robberies with someone ending up dead-i dont think we should pay money for years and years to feed and clothe them, keep them warm, make sure they have showers,t.v. times, rec rooms, come on folks.we have many homeless children on the streets,we could use this money for'
or maybe you or your family may need some kind of help, and you cant get it,but someone who has been locked up for years, can get food, dental, and hospitalization for free-something is wrong here!!!!!! jmoho
