It is happening at all of the stores around here and even the bank. The bank used to have 5 tellers on Friday now have 2 or at the most 3. The line goes out the door some days. Our Walmart doesn't have the self checkouts and very few cashiers working. Meijers and BJ's both have self checkouts and we use them. Giant Eagle is the worst for being understaffed. They have one regular checkout open and the 4 self checkouts with one lady overseeing all of them.

Our Wal Mart had self checkers for about a month. Then I think they wised up about certain folks "forgetting" to scan everything in their carts. I assume the theft loss was insane.
Now we just wait in long lines like cattle. I avoid Wal Mart like mad, unless there's something I need at 2 a.m. and nobody else is open. You know, like cough medicine, or Hersheys. lol

It's happening everywhere.
IMHO because of the economy companies are laying off people so that the remaining people are overworked and understandably a bit grumpy. Add into that the stress of worrying if you're going to still have a job tomorrow.
I know of companies here that to avoid anymore layoffs they are telling their workers to take 10 days off unpaid.
I personally really need my job and enjoy it. I know that if I loose it that there aren't really many jobs around. I'm sure many are in the same boat but between the uncertainty of having a job and the economy I am stressed. I try to be pleasant at work but it is hard and I certainly don't have any patience left by the end of the day and really don't want to wait in line or be put on hold on the phone.
