I hate the Drivers License place here!!!!
They aggravate me to no end!! 6 times now I've tried to get my Ca license changed over, I was born in Germany and have a German birth certificate but am an American citizen since my dad was an American. I show them proof that yes I am a citizen ie: SS card, expired American Passport, Ca license, and they want a Naturalizations form, which I have never had or don't know if I have one.Tomorrow at midnight my Ca license expires cause it's my bday.. Now they want to see divorce decree from 1st marriage and lo and behold I can not find it.. arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggggggggggggg hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!
Did I say how much I hate the drivers license place?LOL never before any other state I've lived in did I have these problems getting a drivers license...

Thank you Donna. My dad is looking through papers that my mom had, but he doesn't think I have any papers like that.. Makes me kinda wish my mom was still alive now so I could ask her... If I don't get this sorted out I can't go to cali next week.. *sigh*

If you don't find it, you just have to get a notarized copy from the court house that handled your divorce. It likes $10 here in TN, and it took about a week. GOOD LUCK

She needs to get a Georgia license - she doesn't live in CA any longer.
Just a thought Sheila - heck renew the CA license while you are out there. If you need the DL for id purposes - use the passport - it is the ONLY document that is acceptable even if it is expired.

if it's like out here she'd have to take a written and possibly a driving test once it's expired... maybe renew online for cali for now?

The DMV is a pain here,too.
No matter how much paperwork you bring you're always missing at least one document that isn't easy to get.
Last time I went to renew my drivers license I brought a boxful of documents including a brand new birth certificate that I had to buy since my original is no longer considered official. What a rip off!
So I was in line for about an hour and a half when they said the computers went down and everybody had to come back another day. I asked where the next nearest DMV was and they said that all the computers statewide were linked so they were down too. They said with all new homeland security stuff that the computers go down a lot. In fact two days before the computers were down all day.

My brother had my birth certificate translated from German into English for me, since one of the times I went, that is what they wanted to see, but yet again it's not good enough. I sent a message to my ex to see if he would be kind enough to send me a copy.. If I can't get a license I will not be able to fly since it is my only form of ID I have... I may just have to end up trying to talk to an immigration lawyer maybe.. This is such a major headache......
