I always park close to one too. ESPECIaLLY if I have the kids with me! So i can lock them in the car, put up my stuff, and then return the cart . and Im' never far from the kid/s.
Once or twice I lef the cart out (before I started to park by the areas or maybe i was in an area where I couldn't get to one) in the rain -
..........but it's few & far between.
I agree - what if that cart hit a CHILD!!!!???

If I am alone, I ALWAYS put my cart up, and I try to do everything within my power to not take a cart out of the store, but it doesnt always work out.
I agree when I had 3 kids, ages 5 and younger, I would leave the cart next to the car. Now I have no excuse and most of the time I put it back in the corral.
I was at Home Depot at lunch yesterday & I saw this expensively dressed couple in line ahead of me, & when they got to their BMW they just let their cart go & roll across the lot & smash into this gorgeous dark blue SUV. They just stood there & watched. Pisses me off too!

Somehow i bet you would be the first one who would be filing a lawsuit if it had you or your car that got hit by that cart. Because that cart would have done some damage. The front busted when it hit the cart corral. that is how fast it was going. I don't think you would have been happy to come out and see a big dent in the back of your car or if it had been you a possible sprain or broken limb! and your statment is redundent. Its like saying if you don't want to get into a car accident don't drive on the road.
Its called respect! i don't do damage to others vehicles in return i don't expect it to be done to mine. Plain and simple. And if you care about your vehicle or any of your things you would feel the same way!

Oops! I thought you would catch that I was joking with you...my bad. And nope, I don't do the lawsuit thing. Totally against frivolous lawsuits and all that. Maybe I should go start a thread on that!!
Okay, back to work now...maybe...where did I put my scissors?

I had to outrun a run-away cart. It was headed for my car so I sped up to not be hit. If you have ever been out on a windy day here you would know how the carts can be blown all over the place if not put away.
On a busy day I can see carts all over the lot left without being put away. Can't hardly park for all the carts in the way.

I wouldn't think a lawsuit involving damage to property or person is frivolous, we work hard for what we have (which is worthless anyway) and we'd be destroyed if someone did that to our truck, it may not be worth much but it's all we have!

I would say 95% of the time one of three things happen when I am out places like Wal-Mart....1. DH is with me and he puts the cart up. 2. my 14 yr old DS is with me and he puts the cart up or 3. We park next to a cart corral. HOWEVER, our Wal-Mart has the teensiest parking lot and has taken several of the cart corrals out for parking space and every now and then, Sophie and I are bad people. I try to ALWAYS put it against a light pole or the concrete "stops" so the cart cant go anywhere.
