Being an Amazon seller myself (but I don't sell books), I am furious at the booksellers comments! They have a "Vacation Setting" that you can place your listings on should something come up that will keep you away from your business. It doesn't cancel your listings, just puts them on hold. And it would have taken the seller all of 2 seconds to do this. But what really steams me is the attitude that the low price of the book somehow makes it "ok" to either receive bad service or, in some cases, no service at all!!

There are numerous threads on this topic on the Amazon discussion boards, with most of them being sellers complaining. They complain that buyers actually "have the nerve" to expect their items to come in a timely fashion, when they've only paid x.xx (usually less than $3)! Personally, I think that if I buy something, even for .01, I expect to get it, right??

The OP should definitely write to Amazon customer service, and send that last correspondence also! It is against Amazon seller policies as well as just plain rude, and they may take notice. At the very least, it will go into her "file" or whatever Amazon uses to keep tabs (and they do).

While Amazon's feedback system does leave alot to be desired, you can at least look back on a seller's history, and see how they respond to claims against them. You would be surprised at how many sellers actually call their buyers names, in the feedback! It can sometimes give you an insight as to how they would handle a situation, should one occur during your transaction with them.

Anyway (I think I had a point here! lol) don't let this seller off the hook because of her story. She may have very well been in the hospital, but that is still no excuse for not putting her listings on hold. At the very least, you should file an A-Z claim against them for failure to ship properly. Again, Amazon has a very strict policy on shipping items (within 2 business days) and sellers HAVE to adhere to this.

You know, I hate to say it but WHAT IF she is telling the truth? WHAT IF something horriable put her in the hospital and she had to have this baby ASAP? WHAT IF her book had been on amazon for 2 months (Mine was up for 3 before someone bought it). What is she supposed to do, tell her sig. other or a friend to please remove everything she has for sale online b/c that is more imporant than bringing a life into the world? Again, let's just assume she is telling the truth? How is her feedback? Isn't it up to you to check that out before you buy something? If the feedback is good, I would give her the benifit of the doubt. If it is poor, you are taking that chance and can report it to your credit card co and amazon and leave feedback.

IF she is telling the truth, just maybe dont' you think you should calm down for a minute? Perhaps she sent it media mail? (Even if she wasn't supposed to if you paid for expedited shipping). YOU SHOULD HAVE NOT BID. 11 out of 12 is a pretty good record IMO.

I was polite and respectful in my correspondence with her, I never said a rude word to her, she popped off with she hoped that my book got lost. I paid for priority shipping, if she shipped it media mail, then she still ripped me off. Whether I get it or not, it isn't right for a seller to cheat anyone, whether it is $1 or $100. She still has 4 pages of books for sale, and is actively selling now, so it isn't just my $1.50 book. I treat everyone how I want to be treated, and she had no right to be rude. I understand things happen in life, but the entire time she was "in the hospital" she was actively selling. I work darn hard for my money, and I want to make sure I get my dollars worth.

Well, I got my book today, it looked like it had been through a hurricane, it was bent, torn, water damaged, etc. It was supposed to be in excellent shape according to the description. It was shipped media mail poorly packaged. The book is readable, but that is about it. I got it at least

I'd take a photo of the book and send it in to amazon if that's possible.

Make sure and leave appropriate feedback for the seller.

We need a bad seller list for amazon, ebay, half.com, etc... like we have the bad trader list for the forum just so we can be aware how they treated others if we find an item they have that we want to purchase.

I have never heard back from Amazon after I made the complaint on her, I am going to take a pic and send it to them if I can.

Edited to add: I left negative feedback earlier today when I recieved it, she was able to respond to my negative feedback, it was a seller response

Date: 5/26/2008 Rated by Buyer: Jennifer
Seller Response: "I do not dispute that it took me forever to mail this book out. I was in the hospital giving birth to my premature baby... who is still in the hospital (she's coming home today). It isn't an excuse, but I had a higher priority with my daughter." Date: 5/30/2008

Did you call or email Amazon? I called them and my complaint was taken care of pronto.
I am extraordinarily patient, provided I get my own way in the end.

Kat, I went to the website to look up the how to get a refund, this is what I got

    Your order contains
    XXXXXXXX

The fastest way to get help is to contact the seller, XXXXX stuff. They should be able to assist you if:
    # You want to cancel your order
    # You didn't receive your order on time.
    # You received a damaged or defective item
    # You received a different item from the one you ordered
    # The seller misrepresented an item's condition (see XXXX stuff's return policy)
    Contact seller

If you've already contacted salem's stuff and they failed to resolve the problem, don't worry--Amazon.com can help. You can either...
    # File a reimbursement claim under Amazon.com's A-to-z Guarantee if: You don't receive your order
    # You received a damaged or defective item
    # You received a different item from the one you ordered
    # You want to request a return, refund, or exchange

You'll be able to file a reimbursement claim beginning June 6, 2008
When you return to this page, you'll find the "File a claim" button in this space.

    - OR -
Since I already contacted the seller and she told me that she wished my book would get lost, I am going to try calling Amazon tomorrow when I am not so tired, TY for the suggestion

yeah. Basically my seller told me to get bent. I called them cause otherwise you're just emailing back and forth forever. I had my refund within 24 hrs. of contacting Amazon. Make sure you tell them the book was not in the condition it was supposed to be.
