i have been wondering if i can get ssi for my back. then i read this post and see that people are on ssi for being bi-polar? i am bi-polar, and have also been diagnosed with panic attacks as well as delusional disorders (yes, more than one )
with all those problems, i should be able to get ssi with my mental problems alone shouldn't i?
You could call and check into it. Their number is:

I am on disability for something totally different than anyone else. However, I do have a friend that is severely depressed and is on disability. There is a difference.
Might have to hold on the line for awhile but if you qualify it's worth the wait. Good luck

Just started the first of 2 prescriptions. Will start the second in a couple of days. The Dr wanted me to start them about 4-5 days apart so we know where ( if any ) side effects are coming from.

Anyone who ends up on SSI for a mental illness is in pretty bad shape and finds that the meds don't always control the illness. Because there is no real magic for controlling depression and the variations within it, whether you get SSI or not is going to be based on whether or not you can function in the working world.
Most people can function when they are on meds. There are also those that dispite the meds and the therapy, their illness really does have control over their lives.
Amie, hope and pray that you are someone who responds to meds. People who are rapid cyclers have a horrible time with their meds because their chemistry changes so quickly that it is hard to control. Hope that you are one where the meds do their job and the therapy helps you deal with stress. To live otherwise is to live in constant mental pain and I wouldn't wish that on anyone.
I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints.

I wasnt going to post in here, but I changed my mind, my son who is 10 gets SSI for bring Bi-Polar, and I know several adults also who gets Social Security and SSI for having it also, It isnt easy to get, but if your Phychiatrist says you cant work, and then I would go apply. You might be turned down the first time, but it usually takes several tries, Because there is the application, the appeal, appeal again, and then the law judge, something like that.I dont know about every state, but from what I see around these parts and from hearing people talk, it is easier to get SSI or social security for a mental condition that a physical condition. Just wanted tp say that.

I know of alchoholics who receive SSI, why shouldn't someone with Bi-polar (depending on how severe) My brother receives it, he is Bi-polar, but has other problems too (can't read, schizophrenic(he started hearing voices after going through the trama of my mom dying--that is when they found the bi-polar, and no one would hire him, after his break down. he had worked for a home for the blind, but they let him go because of the break down, and said they couldn't rely on him to be there--their words not his)

I'll bet you, you have a better chance at passing for SSI with a mental illness than you do with a back condition. I say go for it, because you will not get it for your back, I have been there and done it..Everyone I know said I should have acted crazy. I would have passed...No offence to anyone.
