Thats why we use a wood stove. Don't have to worry about something breaking on it and if the electricity goes out we are still going to be ok. We heat totally by our woodstove and fireplace if it is really cold.

Danny you're not a pest! In 1997 ours costs $2500 and it was professionally installed. We had them put in where our buckstove used to be, so yes it's vented thru a chimney. There's no odor with it. As for storing the pellets, we have 4 wood pallets under the car-port where we stack the pellets. If it helps, there are 50 bags in a ton. As for the size, the one I have is one of the smaller ones. If it helps any, my house has 2 bedrooms, 1 office, 1.5 bath, kitchen, living room, family room, and sun/spa room. It keeps it more than warm enough for me!!! One more thing, if you are handicapped or elderly, I highly recommend this. That's the main reason my mom got rid of the wood burner. Oh! One more thing, since I usually have the heat turned up most of the way (doing this causes the pellets to burn faster & hotter) a 40 pound bag of pellets normally lasts about 18 hours. I hope this helps, Danny!!! If not, let me know and I can do some more research for you!!!

I will have to do a little looking into this - I have been considering a woodburning stove but they raise the homeowners insurance rate here and I am just not sure about them. We do use the fireplace in our great room but it really doesn't warm that much. Thanks for the info - another option to consider. Our oil rates are currently $1.39 a gallon and a tankful lasts about a month. Which is why I am looking at other options.

I don't blame you for looking into alternative ways to heat Danny. Good luck with your quest!!!
