Ice Cube on ‘Ridiculous’ #OscarsSoWhite: ‘Like Crying About Not Having Enough Icing On Your Cake’
by Jerome Hudson23 Jan 20161,494
Actor, writer, and, Straight Out of Compton producer Ice Cube called the “Oscars So White” controversy “ridiculous,” and said not getting approval from the Academy “is not something you should dwell on.”
The Ride Along 2 star started by making it clear that “You can’t boycott something that you never went to anyway,” he said as the crowd laughed.
“We don’t do movies for the industry. We do movies for the fans, for the people,” Ice Cube said Friday.
The industry,” Cube continued, “if they give you a trophy or not or a pat on the back or not, it’s nice but it’s not something that you should dwell on.”
“We got accolades from all levels,” Cube said about the film Straight Out of Compton, a movie depicting the rise of the infamous rap group N.W.A, of which Cube is a founding member. “The older generation got an understanding of why we did that kind of music and the younger generation got a history lesson. And we got so much praise for the movie.”
Indeed, the biodrama’s budget was a reported $28 million. It ended up grossing more than $160 million.
“How could you be mad because one academy or guild didn’t say it’s the number one,” Cube added. “It’s like crying about not having enough icing on your cake. It’s just ridiculous.”
Fellow panelist and House star Hugh Laurie agreed with Ice Cube’s remarks.

How bad has Hollywood gotten when Ice Cube is the voice of reason?

Chris Rock Is Not Dropping Out Of the Oscars, Instead He’s Rewriting a Whole New Show [Video]
January 23, 2016
Chris Rock is ready to shake things up during this year’s Academy Awards.
In recent days he’s seen a bit of pressure to drop out of the show due to the #OscarsSoWhite controversy, but instead he’s going to do the job he was hired to do.
However, Academy Awards producer Reginald Hudlin tells Entertainment Tonight that Chris has re-written his entire show to accurately reflect everything that’s going on.
“Chris is hard at work. He and his writing staff locked themselves in a room,” Hudlin told ET. “As things got a little provocative and exciting, he said, ‘I’m throwing out the show I wrote and writing a new show.'”
“Chris is that thorough,” Hudlin added. “He’s that brilliant, and I have 1000 percent confidence that he will deliver something that people will be talking about for weeks.”
According to Hudlin, Rock isn’t steering away from the issue of a white-washed group of nominees, but rather diving right into the fire.
“You should expect [#OscarsSoWhite jokes],” Hudlin told ET. “And, yes, the Academy is ready for him to do that. They’re excited about him doing that. They know that’s what we need. They know that’s what the public wants, and we deliver what the people want.”
The Academy Awards ceremony won’t take place until Feb. 28, but Rock has already addressed the controversy, tweeting an ad for the Oscars and writing, “The #Oscars. The White BET Awards.”
If anyone can ruffle a few feathers, it’s Chris Rock. We’ll definitely be tuning in on Feb 28.

Oh so they want people to tune in to watch Chris Rock roast the academy. Well play! I still won't watch it.
...
And that's exactly what they want , for people to tune in. I still won't be watching. What's the point in watching when it'll all be online next day. Bye.
....
You can only conquer from the inside. The other butt-hurt peeps here in the comments maybe don't know that... But Chris has the right strategy.
That aside, after watching the ET story, am I the only one left thinking that this WHOLE thing was a publicity stunt?
...
I assumed everyone knew Chris wasn't going to drop out. No, he's going to make the most out of this situation by cracking wack jokes like being the only or the limited amount of black at the Oscars. I don't find him funny. I can almost bet he's going to shuck and jive.

Hey! give Chris credited, thrilled he stuck with it. I would watch his stuff, until he went to BET, then he changed to 'their' theme of things. he used to be fair, and put blame where it belonged, and didn't! Deep down he's still a Baby Boomer. Just hope the old Chris comes back and not the 'BET' one. It will be hysterical. You won't see 'color' from either side.

Being the Free Black Thinker that I am, I did some digging on the Oscars winnings.
In the last 20 years:
15% of Best Leading Actors were black. [1]
10% of Best Supporting Actors were black.[2]
5% of Best Leading Actresses were black.[3]
20% of Best Supporting actresses were black.[4]
When you count an average percentage (15+10+5+20) you get the sum of 50/4 = 12.5%. (Link to a few percentage calculators will be below for those of you that are bad with math)
According to the US Census Bureau Data 2014, blacks are around 13.2% of the current population. In 1990 it was 12.1%. In 2000 it was 12.3%. In 2010 it was 12.6%. [5][6][7]
Guess what this means!!! Blacks are actually almost perfectly represented at the Oscars! But wait, that can't be because Jada Pinkett Smith and Spike said otherwise! But y'all just go back to making us look stupid because you get all emotional without fact checking anything. Let the news and social media decide when you get upset, then try and make people believe you aren't dumb.
The big problem with most of you is that you cant make up your minds. You claim you don't need the approval of "white people" and then you beg and whine for acceptance and approval. If you have your pride, what does it matter who accepts you and who doesn't?
"If we truly have pride in who we are as African Americans, we should not need inclusion or acknowledgement from institutions or events that we claim would go out of their way to reward whites over blacks. Instead of having this mindset, blacks are upset because there has not been a proper amount of black Oscar nominations. I find irony in the fact that black folks want to disown folks like Stacey Dash because they are on the opposite end of this silly argument. I don’t understand how she can be considered a less-than-black person, yet one can be seen as an authentic black person even if they are begging to be accepted and included in affairs that they claim cater more to whites."
