Survivor: Blood vs. Water" contestant Caleb Bankston died Tuesday in a freak railroad accident.

Bankston, who worked at the Alabama Warrior Railway in Birmingham, was on a train when it derailed, according to People. Beyond that, not much is known about the accident.

Bankston, 26, was on "Survivor" in 2013 along with his fiance Colton Cumbie. The couple ended the game in ninth place.

"Caleb was an amazing man and friend," contestant Aras Baskauskas told People. "One of the sweetest and most sincere humans I've ever come across. I am gutted by his loss. My thoughts and prayers are with his family."

News of Bankston's death has spread across the web, and has shaken the "Survivor" community, with a number of former contestants tweeting condolences.

Bankston is the third "Survivor" contestant to die since the show first premiered. "Survivor: Palau" contestant Jenn Lyon passed away in 2010 of breast cancer, and in 2013, contestant BB Andersen died of brain cancer at age 77

Former 'Survivor' contestant dies in jobsite accident
June 25, 2014 11:07 AM by Melynda Sides

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - An employee died while working on the Alabama Warrior Railway in Birmingham on Tuesday. The company has identified him as conductor Caleb Bankston, 27. Bankston was a contestant on Survivor: Blood vs. Water in 2013.

The incident happened around noon on Tuesday, according to a release from Alabama Warrior Railway (ABWR). ABWR management has contacted his family and offered counseling for his team members. "A safety stand-down has been ordered at the ABWR for all team members before they return to work at the railroad," said Ed McKechnie, a spokesperson for the company.

The stand down reduces everything except for essential operations and gives managers time to assess the situation, ABRW said on Wednesday. After attending a safety stand down session on Wednesday, crews were then given the rest of the day off. An investigation into Bankston's death is still on-going. Both the Federal Railroad Administration and OSHA have been notified about the incident.

"Our prayers continue to be with Caleb and his family," Dan Smith, Senior VP of Operations, said in a release on Wednesday.

ABWR is a subsidiary of Watco Companies, a Kansas-based transportation company.
