    Question a Question about the ACNielson homscan consumer panel

    HI!
    i wasn't sure where to out this so i figured here was best..or at the least forgivable.
    I got teh scanner and haven't realy had the time to look at it. my question is, do you rack up points fairly quickly? or is it tedious?
    have any of you cashed in your points for nice stuff? or were it crap?

    got one too last week....see how many pts it takes to get prizes?????? I haven't even bothered to scan anything yet. Thinking of passing on this. I saw you get 350pts weekly when you scan the one time. Extra pts monthly if you scan all 4 weeks in that month. Then there are drawings/sweeps for extra pts too. But I don't know if it's gonna be worth all the work/hassle.

    I did this for a couple years, would NOT do it again. Sent the whole kit and kaboodle back. Way too much hassle and decent prizes took WAY too many points. At places like Walmart, Dollar Stores, etc you have to manually enter each price and tell if it was on sale, if you used a coupon, etc. Way too much troule in my estimation. There are others who swear by this though, so I guess it is just a personal opinion.

    I did it for year and hated it! It took me that long to get a $25.00 certificate, and I scanned several times a week. I also hated having to put individual prices in, and stuff. It was one big hassle. Good luck

    I too sent this back. The points you get are not really worth anything. In fact I told them I sent it back, they say they did not get this back (thanks to the USPS) in time and they put it on my credit report!!!!!! After 3 months I'm still trying to clear it up! What a total pain! I'll NEVER do anything like this again!

    I must be the minority here, I'd recommend this one.

    I say this as I've been doing it for over 5 years, and although it does take a while to start earning points, the longer you are on the panel, the more points you get. You get year anniversaries, bonus points if you transmit once a week, and the DO have contests (but I've never won any).

    They have a lot of surveys, and the points for those are good. It takes me maybe 1/2 hour a week to scan everything, and you at least know that you'll get points so in that respect it is a sure thing! I guess I look at it as I take tons of surveys with contests online for 1/2 hour a week at least, and never really win. This is a sure thing!!

    When I scan grocery items, you don't have to punch in the price.

    Just my opinion. Why don't you try it for a month or so and see if it works for you. You can always quit later if it is too much work.
    It's all fun and games until someone gets poked in the eye.

    I just hit my 4 year anniversary and got 1500 points for that. Though I'm still doing it, I honestly don't think it's worth it. The biggest pain to me is coming home with all those groceries, I have two older male teens, and having to scan everything before putting it all away. No one wants to help as they all think it's a waste of my time. I keep doing it as I keep hoping to win something some day, though I'm not lucky. I've only cashed in for prizes twice. Once for a volleyball set and once for a pair of earrings. The volleyball set was nice and profesional, but the earrings were just okay. I stopped wearing them as I thought they looked cheap.

    I am also in the minority. I do recommend this. I have been doing it for over 3 years and the prizes are decent. You do rack up points quickly. Between scanning, sending weekly, surveys and the Homescan online, birthday points, anniversary points and such you get a bunch of points. Yes, sometimes, I wish I didn't have to scan but it is worth it so that the manufacturers know what people buy. I do ALL of my shopping at the WalMart Super Center and I know the prices by heart. I can whip through a $200.00 order in less than 14 min. By a $200.00 order I really mean my station wagon is packed with bags. I honestly stay if you are REALLY interested, stick with it because the horrible part is having to carry all of the bags into the house.

    If you are truely not interested, send it back. Thanks for letting me say my piece.

    I have been doing it for just over 5 years. Even with bonuses points rack up very slowly. I recently cashed in most of my points for a digital camera. It is a low end Olympus camera with digital zoom (no optical zoom). It sells for $100 at CompUSA. (It would not have been my 1st, 2nd or 3rd choice but it was the only digital camera choice). Including leftover points, it translates into getting about $30 a year for something you spend multiple scan sessions that add up to at least 30 minutes per week. This is definitely not a program that really rewards you for your time. (about $1 a week). They do run quarterly contests for prizes worth $25,000 or so (one winner). They also have small weekly and monthly contests with $100 prizes for a few winners.
    Why do I stay on? That's a good question.
    Since I buy products that are off the beaten path, I feel that I may be one of the few people sending in consumer info for them. At a certain point though, it will prove to be way too much effort for ,what is really for the most part, a volunteer effort

    I am waiting for my scanner also. after reading about it, I plan on sending it back also. it seems like a lot of waste. I rather do surveys
