Thread: Tornados in Missouri

Today's tornado brought to you from Central Texas - west of Fort Hood, and on the west side of my hometown of Copperas Cove. Many friends and acquaintances still live in the area. One classmate posted a few pictures - several houses damaged and made inhabitable. One report said 200 homes affected (some completely destroyed) but no loss of life reported yet. Power out in some parts of the community.

Well yesterday we got 2 inches of rain basically all at once, hubby said he had never seen anything like it. I was in town and it rained really hard there and I looked toward home and the sky's were black, oh no I thought. I had called my husband from the grocery store to see if he needed anything and he said no, just cleaning up, What I said, WATER he said. The rain came downs so fast it filled up the window wells, and ran down the walls and on to the carpet in the basement. I knew on my way home it had to be bad when the deep ditches were filled up to the road, they had the water on pavement signs up already, and there was water across roads that I've never seen flooded and we've been here 11 years. Anyway, I get home, he has stuff moved and the fans going and it rains again and the sump pump is going off and the lights keep flickering and we keep looking at each other wondering if we should get the generator ready. The rain finally stops but we watched the news and it's going to rain Friday through Monday. I thank God for this precious gift of water because so many have been living in drought conditions for years, I just wish he would space it out a little.

I saw a statistic about our area in NW Ohio - said it has rained five days a week for multiple weeks now (I forgot how many, but it feels like months now). Farmers all over are suffering because they cannot plant in muddy fields, and the rains probably would have killed the plants anyway from too much water. That's going to affect food availability and prices, no doubt Areas that haven't flooded in the past are receiving record amounts of rain. It's been a crazy spring/early summer.
