    Ugh! Need laundry help!

    I did a load of laundry on Friday and for some unknown reason forgot to start the dryer. I may want to mention that it was 100 degrees here on Friday. Saturday I did another load and noticed the still wet load in the dryer. So I cursed myself for not starting the dryer the day before and started it. When it was done I took the laundry out, folded it and put it away. DS took a shower that night and said his washcloth smelled funny. I smelled it and it had a musty/mildewy smell to it. YUCK! So I rewashed the whole load this morning with a ton of vinegar in it. I just took it out of the dryer and it STILL reeks!! How am I supposed to get that rancid smell out of everything? Some of the things in that load were favorites and I don't want to toss anything.

    I've done that and soaked everything in hot water with vinegar, Oxi Clean and Purex Crytals overnight. Good luck!

    You can also rewash with amonia as well. Let it soak in it for a few hours before hand.

    *Don't throw the clothes out. The smell will eventually go away.

    I've had that happen before and put in baking soda to take the smell out. I can't tell you how much I put because I just dumped it straight from the box into the wash.

    I have an HE washer with the 3 compartment for
    laundry soap---->liquid bleach---->fabric softener

    I have washed like normal, using laundry soap, plain bleach (must say disinfects on bottle; not a scented one or the splashless) and leave out the fab softener.
    I also using the hotest wash (even running the faucet until it runs hot)
    when that cycle is done, I wash again with the soap and fabric softener (no bleach)

    It has worked for me

    Definitely had it happen to me as well. Multiple washings definitely help, but I think the soaking in the washer with baking soda works best.

    It is so humid here I have had that happen when trying to dry clothes on the line. Soaking the clothes overnight is the key -hottest water the clothes can stand + vinagar and baking soda both work well.

    Is there any way you could hang them to dry out in the sun? That always made my clothes smell so much better.

    Thanks for all the advice! I soaked them in hot water and vinegar for a couple hours and was amazed at how long the water stayed hot! After the soaking I washed them as I normally would then hung them out on the clothesline. Most, if not all, the smell seems to be gone. LESSON LEARNED!! Always remember to start the dryer, especially in the hot summer!

    Another perfect substitute is plain 'ol lemon juice! Squeeze one of those plastic lemon juice containers
    into the wash...let aggitate a few, with reg. Detergent, then add your clothes! RUN THRU REG. CYCLES. Works everytime!
