Fresh pineapple has some kind of enzyme in it which breaks down protein and causes tenderness in the mouth--mostly the tongue --the fresher the pineapple the more reaction -- the process in canning pineapple kills the enzyme so you wouldn't have the same reaction with canned

try mixing it with some fruit dip, we use a thing of cream cheese and a jar of marsh mellow cream, mix it together and dip! That will take the soreness away, me and my DD have OAS and cannot eat ALOT of fresh fruits and veggies, most have to be cooked or mixed with something.

LOL It was funny when I read about planting the top my husband did it I think this is the third year and we have not seen a pineapple plant yet. We have it in a big pot keep it outside in the summer and put it in the spare room in the winter. It would not be bad but he gets mad if someone hits it and breaks the leaves. It has gotten pretty big we will be putting it outside again soon will see what happens this summer. If you do it Good Luck!
