Do you have a rice cooker/steamer?

How do you like it? Do you really use it, or was it just something you bought thinking you would use it all the time, and then just set on the shelf?
I've been eyeing them at the store, theres some that do rice, veggies, and some meat.
What all do you do in yours? Can you say, put in some rice, seasoning and maybe some chicken or something to make flavored chicken rice or something??

    thanks

the 10 cup one I saw was like, 5 cup dry makes 10 cup rices. I was just wondering I guess if it's big enough to get a good amount of steamed veggies or anything else to cook in it.
I also saw some with all kinds of different buttons, on with buttons for white rice, brown rice, steam....

I use my rice cooker all the time. I make a mixture of Uncle Bens, brown, and wild rice. It's soooo good, and I don't have to watch a pan while it cooks. I just put it all together about an hour or so before I need it, and turn it on. I love being able to leave it on warm, too.

I've also tossed in some frozen broccoli to mess with the family. They loved it.

You'll pry my rice cooker out of my cold dead fingers.

If it takes a hour to cook rice then it is a waste of time. It only takes 20 minutes to cook rice on the stove.

As for steaming veggies - check out the Glad and Ziploc steam bags for the microwave they are awesome.

I love my rice cooker -- I usually tell one of the kids to get the rice started while I am cooking the rest of the meal, all they have to do is rinse the rice, pour the ingredients in and be done.

I haven't really made any thing else in it but rice (white rice, Jasmine rice, brown rice etc), but it has a steamer tray to use if I wanted to.

I made the mistake of buying one a few yrs ago. I HATE it! Its the larger 10 cup one (maybe its an 8 cup). I never had any problems with cooking all of the rices (I cook all different kinds-except plain ole white LOL) on the stove but I cannot for the life of me get rice to turn out right in the rice cooker! I dont use it to steam veggies either because I have a Micro Steamer that I LOVE!

    Total waste of money!

I used to swear by making rice on the stove.....until my SIL suggested a rice cooker. Yeah, I don't like my SIL but I must give her kudos for the suggestion.

It takes about 20 minutes....put in 1/2 more water than rice, turn it on and you're set 20 minutes later. No thought process nor burning the rice anymore. Love it, love it, love it.

I also got creative with throwing in a can of black or pinto beans, some bullion cubes, can of corn, some frozen vegetables, can of diced tomatoes, etc. ...whatever I have hanging out and it comes out great. Again, no real thought process needed, throw it all in and come back in 20-25 minutes later.

I have the 10 cup, you'll need it that big (better more than not enough). Good luck.

I haven't tried steaming vegs in it. It was a good investment for us. We use it all the time.

About ten years ago, I bought the Pampered Chef Microwave rice cooker. I love it. Had it for all these years, and it still works great. Other than my large pots, this is the most used item in my kitchen. I just looked it up, and see that even though it has been all these years, the current model is exactly the same as mine. And it is affordable.

I use it for rice, veggies and even to brown hamburger. It has vented lids, and spouts for pouring. At $10.50, you can't go wrong. Here is the link to the product:
