    100 calories..........

Have you noticed an increase in products that are now advertising "100 calories"?

I was in Costo the other day and a lot of the snacks have "100 calories" largely plastered on the side of the box. From cookies, to granola bars, candy........and now Coke. My son brought home a real cute bottle of Coke and I just happened to notice "100 calories"....it is 8.5oz. (an 'odd' size).

So this has me thinking......is the food industry making things in 100 calorie size to make it easier for the consumer to judge overall calories? So if you're on a 1200 calorie diet, you can have 12 items, 1500 calories, 15 items, and so on.

Makes sense......but on the other hand, is it making it 'too easy'? Have we become such a lazy and dumbed down society that we can't think nor have self-control?

Kind of like the calculator. Since it's introduction to the main stream with it's small size and price and being heavily used......many find it hard, if not impossible, to function without one. The 'dumbing down' for convenience, is it worth the cost?

I"ll tell ya honestly, I can't live without a calculator. I can do simple math without one...if I have to...lol The 100 calorie thing is just a convience item. It's making it easier for people to not have to cook or watch what they eat. They are still full of sugar! I don't buy them. I'll make my own 100 calorie snacks in my own baggies. It is getting out of hand.

I think of it as nothing more than a diet fad.

It's just another way for manufactures to charge more for smaller amounts.

    Yup!
Just because it says 100 calories, doesn't mean it's good for you!

    read the labels

    and yes, they are expensive.
very little in those 100 cal bags and between 6-10 pkgs in a box. then they cost more (way more) than buying a larger multi serve bag or box and splitting it up yourself. (If they are even truely the same product)

I bought one of those Pepperidge Farms cookies. Each pack has only 2 freakin cookies. It is advertising & nothing more.
I suppose they think we are too stupid to figure out that each cookie is 50 calories.
