Check the little smiley faces inside the cherry blossoms. Are they all facing the same direction? Sometimes the fakes will be sporadic, other times not. But the authentic LV bag should have all the ones on the front facing the same direction, the sides/back will all be facing the same direction. The inside lining should be a soft alcantara (I think that is what it's called) It feels like a super soft suede. The piping should be leather so give that a sniff and see how it smells. You'll know it's not real if it is a coarser material than the leather. Is it a rounder barrel type or small handbag or larger bag? Any inside pockets? Did she gift her the dust bag with it? If so, are the corners of the dust bag round or square? Also, under the LV name does it say where it is made? Most fakes replicate most of the writings, numbers but they can't replicate that soft suede like interior because it would be too expensive. Give it a good sniff and if you smell the leather that a good indication that it's authentic.
Hope you have the real thing! I love handbags but don't just buy because of the name brand, I just get what I like. Right now I'm hot for the Coach Poppy Sequin bag and the LV Vernis Alma MM.....it's just a wishlist so I may as well be extravagant with it LOL

I think I would call the girls Mom & ask if it was OK that her dd gave the purse to your dot.
If it is a gift it really doesn't matter if it is real or a really good fake.
I can not fathom paying over $1,000 for a purse though as much as I covet a Prada purse or a pair of Jimmy Choo or Manolo Bhlanick shoes. Those are fantasy dream purchases & not my reality.
I'll stick to Payless BOGO & Kohl's 80%off purses.
