all play station 3s are backwards compatible except the 40gb... you would be better off to try to sell that one on ebay.. and buy you a used 20 gb..or 60... they play the older games.

They make 3 models...
1 plays ps2 and ps3 games.
1 plays just ps3
1 has more memory or another purpuse I just can't remember.
We have the one for just ps3 games, however I haven't seen many games I will allow the kids to play. We mostly use ours for blue-ray discs.

Beso, that's why Mike is happy to have it. He's been wanting one for the blue ray capabilities. I don't see many games I'd let the kids play either, which is why its important to have one that plays the PS2 games. My kids have such a limited amount of game playing time and rules they have to follow before being allowed to play that their ability to play games is probably the only thing that persuades them to do their chores, etc LOL

I am so glad I am not the only one with rules on playing games. For awhile thats all my son would do!
So now he has to have all of his chores and is allowed 1/2 hour on Tuesday and Friday. Sometimes he has more time on the weekend but that depends on his grades and so on....
I'd rather buy the kids a movie to watch on it vs. a game anyday...
If you want to buy games look for one of those game stores, they sell cheaper used games. Which is what I do. My son beats the game and then won't play them again =wasted money.
Good luck!

Yep, we are pretty strict with the kids and games. They cannot play on school days at all, which is lifted during the Summer and holiday breaks. They cannot play until chores are done, and properly. If their behavior or their grades are bad they can't play at all and can only get on the computer if it pertains to school. And when they do have game time they only get an hour a day, which they can split up or take all at once.
We don't have one of those game stores near us, but we have a Hastings, which sells used games. But holy cow, a used game is really expensive too! The kids wanted Ratchet and Clank and it was $49.99 used! Holli bought the group one game today, and I told her I'd take her to the pawn shop to see if they have any games later on in the week.
