Help with puppy housebreaking!
I am at wits end with this cute little beagle pup! She is outside for hours, then comes inside and immediatly pees or poops! We can rub her nose in it, put her out, and as soon as she comes in she goes again. She gets praised when she goes outside, and she knows it is bad to go in the house-she runs to the door after she goes-she knows she is gonna get in trouble. I have 3 other dogs, they all were no problem to train. We have tried the spray to keep her off of areas, put pepper down, but she doesn't even sniff around, just goes. She is such a cutie (only reason she still is alive/lol-just KIDDING), but it's driving me insane. Steam cleaner going every day-I can't stand to have the house smell like dog pee. Puppy pads do not work-she plays with them and shreds them into confetti! Help please!!!!!!

Dont rub her nose in it,all that will do is make him relate his pooing/peeing to you being angry, and not in a positive way. Are you crate training? I am in the process of training of my Dachshund, they are notoriously hard to train just like beagles, but you have to be consistent.I take mine out 10-15 minutes after he eats. If he does nothing in that time,we go in,and every 15 minutes he and I go out again. Make sure he is on a feeding schedule,no free feeding! It takes some time but they will and can be trained. But please no rubbing the nose in the poo or pee...it doesnt work and will cause behavior issues later on. Another thing you can do,when she poos or pees, pick or blot it up,take it and her outside and say something whatever it is you use for going potty. With my dog I say "do business" and add here when there are accidents. If she is left outside too long, like you said for hours, she is not understanding her job is to do business, she thinks its to play. This is what I do with my pup, he eats, goes outside, comes in after 15 min,we go back out if he hasnt done business, after he does business,we go in and he rest, plays etc. Only when he is calm does he get to go outside to play.

A dog is not almost human , I know of no greater insult to a canine than to describe it as such.

with my puppy, I took him out every half hour and said "potty outside" when he did, I praised him. When he had an accident inside, I took him to the spot and said 'no,no..potty outside" and took him out. When they are little use the same door. He sleeps with me all night so no problems at night lol, I take him out before bed bed and immediatly when we get up. Lot's of praise. When he eats, out he goes. He's four months now,so we go out every hour or so.

I agree with the crate training. It works wonders!! but we leave a food bowl down all the time. We also would take ours out every 1/2 hour to an hour and say potty. Riley had never been outside when we got him so we had to carry him, LOL. he would NOT walk on cement or go out the door for a long time. We used potty pads and it worked great. Yes we had to watch him or he might try to chew on them. Make sure he has other chew toys available.
But yes, DEF. take them out shortly after eating!! and crate at night.
We had Riley trained in 2 - 3 weeks.

I have had all 3 of my dogs since pups. The youngest being just 5 or so months old and he still has accidents sometimes but its usualy when he is
not able to get someones attention.
Definately dont rub their nose in it, that does NOT work.
The house training pads might work but for some dogs they just like to
play with them and shred them.
Crate training is definately the best way. All my dogs have their own
crate/kennel.
Also, I have had to get onto my kids when they take the dogs out and just play
with them. They need to use the bathroom then play time. I have had to
take the new puppies out many many times a day, they need to know a routine.
I ask mine " do you need to go potty?" and they charge to the door LOL

bumping this for more advice or readers. My dog is now 6 mos and not broke. Only pees outside in the morning after being crated all nite. He goes on puppy pads, cept when he poos where he shouldn't. I have not been the most consistent, but it is hard to go out every 1/2 hour for 10 mins or so w/ a one year old. Can't leave him in the house unattended and it is now just warm enough to take him with me, but by the time I get shoes and a jacket on him, the pup's already peed! ugh!!!! I'd pay someone money to do it for me! lol! I tossed some of his poo out to the 'spot' but he will not poo out there. ?????

Crate training is the best way (at least in my opinion). Let puppy out when you get up. Then after she (he) takes care of business bring it inside and play a little. If after a reasonable length of time outside they haven't done anything, back in the crate they go. This worked for my hard headed Chihuaha. I just tell mine to "go potty" and they will. I swear Rosie (my Chihuaha) was the worst in the world to train. But be steady with your pup and have patience. All of a sudden you'll realize that your baby's housebroken.

yuck, when you were training your babies to go to the potty you didn't rub their noses in it when they slipped up, did you? A puppy is just a baby dog.
