My Daughter Was in the Local Paper!
Hello Guys ~ I don't post that often here (I am mostly over in FSOT) but I wanted to share. My daughter, Caitlynn, was in our local Battle of the Books Competition and got her picture in the local paper! Her school didn't win but being as they came in second to last last year (this is her first year at this school) ~ they did alot better! I am so proud of her and how hard she has worked!

Westover Middle School students Alan Taylor, left, Caitlyn Daly and Dallas Britt confer Thursday during the Battle of the Books held at Fayetteville Technical Community College.
After 1,052 questions and more than 120 rounds, Martha “Mattie” Vorder Bruegge was still nervous as could be.
Her teammates and coaches, too.
“I felt like crying when they announced we won,” she said after Seventy-First Classical Middle School took top honors Thursday in the 15th Annual Battle of the Books. All 16 Cumberland County middle schools competed.
Vorder Bruegge, along with her sister, Ruth, and fellow teammates Alexandria Gates, Xiaoyan Han, Reghan Horman, Catherine Kim, Samuel Lee, Lorna Martinez, Nadia Mishal, Sarah Pfeffer and Linda Xiao earned 167 points to edge Reid Ross Classical Middle School by a point.
Luther “Nick” Jeralds Middle School took third place after winning a four-round tie-breaker with Lewis Chapel, both finishing regular competition with 162 points. John Griffin, the defending champion, was fifth with 161 points.
“We’ve got three eighth-graders who have been on the team for three years,” said Katherine Trott, 32-year-old head coach at Seventy-First Classical. “They’re Xiaoyan Han, Reghan Horman and Linda Xiao. It’s great for them.”
Seventy-First Classical earned the right to compete in the North Carolina Battle of the Books regional competition scheduled for April 3 at St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg.
More than 200 students and parents turned out for the day-long competition Thursday at the Tony Rand Student Center on the Fayetteville Technical Community College campus.
Teams responded to more than 1,000 questions after reading 26 books that were assigned almost a year ago. Among them were “Singer of All Songs” by Kate Constable, “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee, “Here Lies the Librarian” by Richard Peck and “Angel on the Square” by Gloria Whelan.
“I read through the summer and then throughout school,” said Mattie Vorder Bruegge, a seventh-grader who is the daughter of a gastroenterologist and retired surgeon.
The victory gave Seventy-First Classical its third title since claiming piggyback crowns in 2002 and 2003. Lewis Chapel, this year’s “Most Improved” squad, owns six titles — 1995, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2004 and 2005.

They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them. Distance and time may separate us but friendship and memories won't.
~When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure~
