I need a lil help with my paper for this class... simple english Hah!

I am in my second class of my first time back to college and in my Psych class we are writing our life story and I have to include my parents so, I was just wondering if I need to capitalize mom and dad in my sentences?

I tried looking online with no luck... I am sure I am just missing it!

    Thanks in advance!

Good question. I would think if you are calling them by name, like hey Mom, hey Dad then it would be caps. If you are just saying I love my mom and dad, then no caps. I know I am wrong, just wanted to post to see how wrong I am once someone that knows posts the rules...lol. Good luck.

I agree with Yankeemary. If that helps any by calling them directly is a proper noun (name) and it would be capitalized. otherwise in general it would be lower cased. GOOD LUCK

If you say something like, "my mom used to make us cookies" then it wouldn't be capitalized but if you wrote something like "Mother always said" then it would be. It depends how you use it in a sentence.

Alright, I consulted my English That Works book and if you say Mom was my best friend, then it's capitalized. If you say my mom, then it's not. Same thing goes with all other relatives. Capitalize all proper nouns (specific persons, places, or things) but do not capitalize common nouns. It gives Grandpa and my grandpa as the examples for pronoun and common noun.

Ok with all that said, am I close to being correct? I would really like to know.
