Wow, it's disgusting what this ad implies ! I thought at first it was for the monthly cycle, now I see it's for... well, a smelly 'down there'... ewwwww even ! Is that (or was that) a real problem back then ? Maybe it was, if it were before indoor plumbing, maybe it was...
I don't know what to think of it...LOL, wonder if this was Lysol brand douche, or the actual Lysol ? No way, Lysol would tear ya up 'down there'... Maybe before Summer's Eve and Massengale there was Lysol brand douche...lol, just the name is a turn-off.
I just googled "Lysol douche" and, it was from the 1920's, and into the 1940's, and it was real ! Ok, it was used for birth control ! It says it was illegal to advertise birth control, so, they advertised it as a douche. That's what the 'net' she's in has to do with it... she couldn't 'get with' her hubby for fear of getting pregnant... and the Lysol douche was to clean out the, well, you know... after sex.
Dang, I just learned something today !!
"We had to get rid of the kids, the DOG was allergic!"

Thank you Char for teaching us all that. I have often wondered what women did for birth control all through history. Well now I know!

I talked to my mom about this (she is 84) and she said they would use this for yeast infections, just mix a small amount with boiled and cooled water, used like a douche 5 or 6 days and it would take care of the infection.
She had not heard of it being used as a form of birth control.
Also she said that if a chld had a severe diaper rash a very small amount mised with boiled water and then just wash the babys bottom with it would clear up the diaper rash quickly. She said we did not cry so it must not burn childs bottom.
Some of these old timey things worked even though it sounds odd.
