    Need some Jewelry help

Just got some awesome deals at Goodwill (you can say I stole, lol)

I got a very heavy Sterling bangle for 99 cents, gorgeous, intricately engraved, and they didnt even realise what they had.

I also got a ring, paid a couple of bucks more for it, but I am having a little trouble with the Hallmark on it, have done some searching on the net, but not having the luck I am wanting. It is silver in color, and is marked with what looks to be a "W" then .999 China. There is another mark between the 999 and China, but cant tell what it is, looks to be just a symbol. I know in China they mark both gold and silver with .999 if it is pure. Anyone know where I can find more info in this ring? I know is most definately a precious metal, just not possitive which, but I am leaning toward silver....

Take it to a pawn shop and they can tell you for free (at least they do here)

I don't know much about jewelry, sorry

Thanks for your help. LOL, I told DH the same thing you suggested, that we ought to take it to the pawn shop.

I also got DD a really cute promise ring(size 5 with double hearts, perfect for an 8 yo's first real ring) that is 10k and diamond. I spent $10 for all 3 items, and they didn't even realise that her ring was gold.

Went to the Pawn Shop. It is fine silver (coin grade) which is better than 925 and Sterling. It doesn't have the 7.5% other metal. It is 99.9% pure. Cant believe I got it so cheap. I will have to find my camera and post pics for you all.

Funny thing, they really have no clue about jewelry there. I had to give them a little lesson. One gal had me telling them which of her things was costume.

You inspired me to go to the Goodwill today .. haven't been there in years. We didn't find anything to buy, but it was fun looking. I'll have to go back again soon and see what they have.

Thanks. I thought it was silver before I got a confirmation, but, the part that kinda threw me was the fact it was marked "China" because I know they mark both their silver and gold coins with .999, meaning pure, the only difference is on the coins, gold is AU .999 and silver is AG .999. I hadn't dealt with jewelry from there before today.

LOL, I love Goodwill, have gotten alot of good deals at ours. DH is sitting in one of them, his lazyboy recliner he got for $30. I also got a really neat end table for $30. It is Mahogany with a leather top with gold inlay and drop leaf sides and drawers, really old.

Have you all ever tried their auctions? We enjoy those too. http://www.shopgoodwill.com/default.asp You can find local ones and pick up items you win, instead of having them shipped.
