Re: My dog MAY have heartworms??
Do you have a local animal hospital or one close by?
May just be your best option right now!
Poor girl; will say a prayer for her for complete recovery.
Your vet should be able to give you a good guesstimate on her age.

Re: My dog MAY have heartworms??
I would be going to every vet in town if I had to, why would anyone play this "wait and see" game?

EXCUSE ME! How dare you make accusactions that I'm just sitting here
playing the "wait & see" game. What am I to do camp out @ the lab & wait to see the results! Am I supposed to go to veternary school so I can self-diagnose her.
I took her to the vet, the vet took her blood & took an Xray. We had to wait for the blood test to come back to see what was wrong with her. Its not like they have an on-site lab.
Am I supossed to take her " to every vet in town " only to have to wait for the same lab results to come back! No vet that I know of is psychic.
--------
We heard back from the vet this afternoon, she does have a severe case of heartworms & kidney failure, thats why she has the blood in her urine. The vet said that it would be best to put her down, if we tried treating the worms, her kidneys would just get worse, so I'm taking her down 1st thing in the morning to be euthanized.
Thank you all who gave me such positive words in the past days!

Re: My dog MAY have heartworms??
Sorry to hear the bad news about your pet.
If you ever need a good vet, over in Hermitage, I think it is Bell Rd (it changes right there around the dam) there is McCormick Animal Clinic. The vets there are really good. My daughter used to work for them during her senior year of high school and they took care of a few of our animals.

I'm so sorry, I just got in from work and read this. My heart is breaking for you and your little dog. Just know your doing the right thing. I watched one suffer before because I couldn't bring myself to let anyone put her to sleep. It was the most horrible thing I ever had to witness. I wished a millions times over that I wouldn't have kept hanging on to the hope she would recover, because it's just so wrong to let one die in pain. Your doing the best thing you can do for your pet. Just hold her tight and let her know how much you love her. Try and be strong and have someone go with you.

Re: My dog MAY have heartworms??
So sorry to hear of your poor baby...
I had to the same with my Shepherd 6 years ago.
She had other major health problems though. I was a tough decision for me as I'm sure it was for you.

Re: My dog MAY have heartworms??
Oh, I am so sorry about your dog. Hang in there. IT is very sad, but I do believe you are doing the right thing.
As for the "Wait and see game"...unbelievable that would even be said! Don't let it bother you! You did everything you could, and did the right thing.

Re: My dog MAY have heartworms??
Thanks guys!
I have to take her in in an hour. We were very suprised that she made it thru the night. Shes real out of it now, so it makes it a little easier.. knowing that we're doing the right thing.
Shes the 1st dog I ever had , the 1st animal I've ever had to put down.
Less than a yr ago, my dad went to the hospital & was dying, I had to sign the papers to pull the plug. I'm crying more about Bella than I did when I had to watch my father take his last breathe. I think its becasue dad knew, we talked about the DNR and I was just following thru on what he wanted, it was a relief, with Bella, shes helpless, she doesn't know. Its so sad!
