Re: infected cat paw
I found this, not sure about it since I don't have cats..
* Paw Treatment:
A home remedy for treating paw pad and other wounds: mix iodine and water to the point at which it looks like tea. Add some Epsom salt to clean out the wound and bandage it with gauze. You can also apply Bag Balm to help chaffed and injured paws heal. Put on a bootie or small sock to protect injured paw pads.
Why not learn to enjoy the little things - there are so many of them.

Re: infected cat paw
my vet uses just neosprin, on cats or dogs for cuts or sores. I also use it, saves a vet bill.

Re: infected cat paw
I hate to hear about your kitty. I'm a huge cat lover myself too! I have always just used hydrogen peroxide, and have always had good luck. I have a stray who I can get near, but can't touch, he just doesn't trust me enough yet, but several months ago, he was limping real bad, and his little paw sounds just like yours, so swollen, with a huge cut, it looked terrible. He wasn't putting any weight on it. I managed to pour peroxide several times on it while he was laying down, and about a week later Pepper (as I call him) was all better. It seems cats know how to heal themselves when it comes to cuts, etc.. Good luck, and I hope your kitty gets well soon!!

Re: infected cat paw
I just had this problem with one of my cats. I took him to the vet and found out that he had been bitten by something (not cut like we thought) and that the swelling was caused by the infection (abscess). He also had to have a rabies shot. I'd reallllllly recommend scraping the money together and taking your cat to the vet. Perhaps you can find a vet that takes payments? Do you have some type of free vet clinic or Cleo Fund in your state so that people with low income can can get medical care for their animals?

Re: infected cat paw
We have had the same happen to a couple of our cats. We just did the same thing you did and they were fine. Just keep a watch on it and try to get as much of the pus out as you can. What happened to ours is we squeezed as much of the pus out put peroxide on it then a day to two later more formed and we squeezed it out and put more peroxide on and it was fine. The first time it was on the back of ones ear and another on the side of the paw. The first got into a fight with another cat and the other was out in some briar patches and got scratched. The cat should be fine if you do that. Keep doing that, and if it does not scab over in a few days (3-4) then I would take the cat in. Like someone else said, putting neosporin (or generic neosporin) would be a good idea too. HTH

Re: infected cat paw
My dog had the same thing. They vet gave me some "watered down" neosopin ointment and some kflex. Once the hamster had some infection on its paw. A huge pus pocket (huge for a hamster) came up on it. I took a sterile pin and pop it.I couldn't believe how still that hamster was! Then it heal up fine. Good luck

Re: infected cat paw
Povidone iodine would be a better choice for the abscess. Warm compresses,and when pus is draining,clean it out with the povidone iodine. Neosporin will heal it " backwards" meaning it will heal the outside first,instead of the inside on out.An abscess normally makes a protective barrier to "wall it up" from the other part of the body,but as it builds up,that thin layer of skin can "leak" and thats where the real concern starts. Maybe you could try calling some vet's offices and see if they could help you out? And tell Kitty no licking,maybe an E collar from the pet store will help to remedy that.Hoping Kitty gets better

A dog is not almost human , I know of no greater insult to a canine than to describe it as such.
