Okay first of all, the article you pointed out was talking about LEGAL immigrants. Apparantly, people keep saying over and over they have NO PROBLEM with legal immigrants so this point is mute. It even points out the illegals are not elligible for most programs.

Second this place, CIS, claim to be "independent and non-partisan" yet they "seeks fewer immigrants but a warmer welcome for those admitted". That is not non-partisan to me. If you come at this from the angle I want less then you will maybe miss some important data.

In addition, any researcher worth their salt will state what type (t-test, chi squared, etc) they used to calculate the data. They did not say what type of testing (experimental, non-experimental) they did not say what type of q's were asked what type of sampling they did or anything. For the last two years, as part of the nursing program to prepare us for a masters in nursing, I have had to learn all about research, so I should know.

They did state they used mean-testing statistics, but what does that tell me? It is just the average answer they wanted of all respondents.
"Mean Test Score (% correct): Each participant’s test score is the percentage of correctly answered test items. The mean test score is the average of the test scores of all respondents or of all matched respondents."
That does not tell me how many respondents, meaning if they only sampled 10 people and then want to apply it to the US these statisics are definately going to be skewed.

Illegal immigration is a burden on the taxpayer.
The costs of illegal immigration to the taxpayer are numerous, but the largest costs are education of their children, emergency medical care and incarceration for those arrested for crimes. Despite being ineligible, some illegal aliens also get welfare the same way they get jobs: with identity documents falsely identifying them as U.S. citizens. In addition, if they have U.S.-born children, they may collect welfare assistance in the name of those children. The annual net cost of illegal immigrants (after subtracting their tax payments) to the American taxpayer is likely to be more than $45 billion. Our recent study of the net fiscal “Costs of illegal immigration to Californians” estimated the partial costs at $10.5 billion in that state alone.

They're Canadians not Mexicans/Cubans..So, It's okay as long as they're are not of the Spanish descent. {insert sarcasm**

Hell, why complain about the "hispanics" only. Let's throw everyone in the mix who's a burden on tax payers. Americans are also a huge burden - Those who do not work who collect food stamps, medical, welfare, housing, public assistance for electricity, propane/gas & whatever else is avalible to people. It's not only the immigrants. I'm willing to bet more than half of the people on this site collect some type of government assistance, whether it be SSI or Welfare. Let me clarify something before someone gets their bloomers in a bunch. I'm not talking about those who have a legitimate reason keeping them from being gainfully employed. I'm talking about those who do not want to work. Yes, there are more of those types of people collecting from the government than not.

There are ILLEGAL immigrants of just about EVERY nationality. Why are you guys picking just on Mexicans? Especially since a lot of those Mexicans aren't even from Mexico. They come from South America and other Central American countries as well. I can understand why they want to come here and I can understand why they do not want to wait for a permanent visa....it can take a long time. I don't agree with them entering the country illegally, but just because they do does not make them bad people. As someone else stated, there are BAD apples in every race.

Yes, our country was founded by immigrants, but unfortunately there is only so much space and jobs available here. There have to be immigration laws in order to protect our own citizens. Yes, alot of the illegal immigrants take jobs that a lot of US citizens would not do if their life depended on it, but they also take jobs that plenty of us would do.

I think it is wrong to single out one nationality to direct our anger at. I am all for closing our borders and being more careful of who enters this country.

Not that it wouldn't affect me at all, but I live in Maine. We, for the most part, farm our fields and pluck our chickens. Grow our blueberries as well as our apples. The majority of people here are white so that's who works at McD's and cleans the offices. In a town close to mine, we have a LARGE amount of Somalian immigrants (some legal, some not). Which jobs do they work? Uh, none...pretty much. Most of them can be found in their government subsidized apartments or roaming the streets during the work day...

Yes, our country was founded on immigrants, BUT there has to be a limit somewhere as to how many people can live/move here. AND, there was no welfare when immigrants came and took over America. They didn't sit on their lazy butts all day long...they worked to feed themselves and their families. I KNOW there are immigrants (of all races) who are hard workers, but the truth is, the illegal ones (working or not) should not be here. What's so dang hard about doing it legally? WHY should we reward people who BREAK the laws of our country??

Oh, and also, why on EARTH would Canadians want to sneak into the US? lmao If anything, it would be the other way around, I think... Yes, there may indeed be illegal Canadians living in the US, but I'm SURE it's no where close to the number of illegal immigrants from other countries. If you find some, send 'em packing because they don't belong here, either. I guess I'm an equal opportunity illegal immigrant hater.

AND, for the record, I am NOT racist and will NOT be called one. I may live in Maine, and may be considered naive by ignorant people who don't know me, but I love and support people of all races. White people may be the majority here, but we DO have people of many other races and I've never had problems with any of them.

Before I take a flying leap off my lil' soap box. I will say, I do not support illegal immigrants. Then again, I'm not going to get my panties all twisted over it. I have better things to worry about than if Jose has a green card or not.

What drives me crazy is when illegals or immigrants start a business. They are given a 7 yr. tax break. There are TONS of arabic businesses popping up in my town. We don't get any sales tax or rev. from it because they are all foreign business owners. Talk about getting screwed!! That is a loophole that needs to be closed!

I find it strange that someone even found the poem "racist" when it didn't even mention a race... it was about ILLEGAL immigrants...

Bunch of poor bleeding hearts who think illegal immigration is ok.... but let someone steal something from them and katie bar the door! the law is the law folks.. why is breaking the law ok?
