I can't believe this, can things get any worse?
Okay I haven't been on here for a while because I've been tired but I really need to vent right now.
Okay so I'm 4 months pregnant right now and I'm a teacher. This year due to my dad being in the hospital again I have lost all my paid sick days. The way I was looking at it though was that at least I still have my maternity leave it just won't be as long as I had hoped for.
Well a month ago my dad's hospital bill came, and his company had just downgraded his insurance, after they paid their part our part came out to be over 140,000 dollars. My dad sold his house to be able to pay for it but still has Cemo to go to and that is getting expensive.
My dad is my dad so I helped out to the point of currently having less than 300 dollars in my bank account and bills coming up this week!!
See I knew that I can do it, but on Monday my husband lost his job! He worked at 38 hrs a week so he doesn't qualify for unemployment. and my car just stalled on the freeway this morning. I'm just so frustrated! I try to do good in this world and I just feel lost!
I have only a pack and play, a swing and some blankets. Where can I go for help? I have 5 months to get the essentials. Where can I pick up some extra cash? You guys are great at this stuff. I don't have start up money, and I'm not looking to make a fortune, I just want at least enough so that I can buy my baby the essentials! I have a little under 5 months to get my stuff together. Please help me, where can I go? What can I do? My husband i slooking for a new job but we still have over a grand in bills, plus rent. Any suggestions?

For baby stuff, check yard sales. Seriously, I've seen brand new stuff for practically nothing. Cribs, clothes, you name it. Plus, it's fun to get out on a Saturday morning, just finding bargains.
Did your dad speak to the financial office at the hospital? My sister went in to talk to them, and they reduced her bill by over half. Just by speaking to them, and showing what she made at her job.
Good luck to you.

You can always look into Social Services in you area.

If you don't plan to nurse your baby, you can go to Enfamil, GoodStart and Similac's websites and sign up for their baby clubs. They will send you free formula samples (full size cans and bottles) and checks to go towards the cost of formula. Also, try checking out the Rewards Forum here for survey and focus group opportunities. Some of them pay upwards of $200 per opportunity. You won't get the money instantaniously, but a lot of times it comes pretty quickly. Also, do you have anything you can sell on eBay?

I have looked at yard yales, its a little too cold right now, I'm hoping to get that later on. I did talk to the hospital and the bill was reduced down from a little under 300,000

Have your dad apply for social security, he'll probably be denied and have to get an attorney but they will approve him, he should also check on medicaid/medicare, my mom went through all this not long ago for cancer. For baby stuff try Goodwill and consignment stores

I agree with hitting yard sales and they'll start popping up here in the next 2 months. Also join your local FreeCycle online if there is one. I'm not really sure how to look for it...I was given a link once and joined a Yahoo group.

In L.A. I bet the Freecycle rocks out there. Check it. Also, i'm not sure which side you're on, but maybe sign up for the freecycle in Ontario and the outer cities around L.A. http://www.freecycle.org/display.php...20West%20Coast
Good luck!!

check here for some work at home jobs. I know a few days ago, there was a post for creating teaching assignments for homeschoolers.

I would check out local churches sometimes they have consignment shops where you can get clothing, furniture, etc in good quality and at cheap price. Also freecycle is great.
As for your dad he should try disability they will probably deny him the first time but he just keeps reapplying and he doesn't need a lawyer if he gets a lawyer what will happen is say he applies today and they deny him tommorow. Then if after getting a lawyer in 6 mos they accept him they will start paying him from the first time he applied and usually a lawyer willt ake a fee. SO it is not worth it in my opinion to get a lawyer esp when you don't have the money to spare. Good luck.
Also in PA we have WIC not sure if you guys have that out in CA, it's Women, infants and CHildren it isn't just for single mothers, or low income so you may qualify even if you don't qualify your child may qualify for health care.

I dont understand that. Ive had unemployment before, and I was only 20 some hours a week, and my mother lost her job and she was working about 30. Were you told you couldnt get unemployment? the unemployment office should have some jobs lined up to help him. Even if its just minimum wage, its something until he finds something better.
