Thread: Paypal sent to me by mistake 6 months ago??

I have a question..what would you do?? I rec'd an email this morning from someone from ebay stating that she sent me $85 to my paypal by mistake. I was selling alot of ebay and BBS and really didn't catch it. But I did look and sure enough she did send me $85. But why wouldn't you catch it sooner??? It's been over 6 months. She's like you have great feedback and I'm sure you wouldn't want any negative feedback so please send me the paypal back. At first, I thought it was one of those paypal scammers, but I did check back thru my account and in early Oct. it was there. I would have sent it back immediately ...but after her smart comment...I'm waiting. Yes, rightfully, I should send it right back. BUT she's the one who made the mistake...and how could she give me bad feedback?? I didin't sell her anything....I guess it just made me mad by her telling me that she'd give me bad feedback...GRRRR...just thought I'd throw this out here and see what you all thought!! Thanks!!

UPDATE...UPDATE....I finally sent her an email yesterday, stating that I think she had me confused..or something was strange...and that she had the wrong transaction...here is what she wrote back...


Thanks for the clarification. Paypal has an error on my account and now that I found out the item you sold, it all makes sense. At Paypal it says that I purchased jewelry from you (an egyptian cross). Although I never did, they said that I couldn't dispute the charge if over 45 days. They told me to contact you to set it straight. I did purchase dolls around that time and the amount would check out for an American Girl doll. Thanks again and..

I don't think she can give you bad feedback without buying something.....but I would still send the money back asap. That's just the right thing to do. I would (along with the money) send her a nasty little letter letting her know you don't appreciate the threat, and that the whole feedback thing works both ways!

woha nelly....why in the world would she not catch that right away WOW thats alot of money, it should probably be refunded...how does she even know *what* your feedback looks like...dod she purchase stuff from you before? This is a tough one....Husg!!

One time I unknowingly paid 2x to the same man for one item.
I thought I'd paid it by Paypal,
but the electricity went off due to a power outage.

When the electric came back on,
it showed I had not paid,
so I did the Paypal payment.

The seller pronto emailed me back that I'd paid 2x,
not just once.
Glad that he was honest and knew I'd double
paid for the 1 item.

It was for between $5 and $10...not a lot,
but I did appreciate him returning it to me.

I'd return it too, were I in your shoes.

you are positive that there was not a transaction between the two of you? Verify that before going any further, I would be suspicious of her. I can't understand why she wouldn't say something before now. That is a lot of money to just let go for half a year. As for feedback, she would have to buy something from you now to give you anything, as for filing a complaint with ebay or paypal - she has run out of time. Good luck

somehow, some way, there is a new scam. if she ACCIDENTLY paid you by mistake, didn't the person she SHOULD have sent it too complain about non-payment. and wouldn't she have checked then to see where the money went??? AND contacted you then?

I agree with MsLynn. While I do believe you should go the honest route, just wait a minute and think about things here. Didn't she wonder six months ago where her item was that she paid $85 for? $85 will buy you something pretty nice from eBay. I think you'd be aware if it came in the mail or not...Something smells fishy about this one...
