Thread: When to switch 3 yr old from toddler bed to big bed?

Hi! What is the right age to move a mature 3 year old from a toddler bed to a twin bed? I know, it is a dumb question. No, I don't have anyone else to ask.
My own mom passed away, and I have kept a low profile lately for safety reasons. Can I borrow another mom for a little while for that parenting advise? TY, Joy

My kids never had a toddler bed. Don't think they were around then. I think my son was around 2 when he went from the baby bed to single bed. He really didn't roll out of bed.
My daughter must have been close to around the age of 2 as well. She did roll out of bed a couple of times. So I took her mattress from her baby bed and slid it under the single bed. At night I pulled it out that way if she rolled out of bed she hit another mattress. During the day I slid it under the single bed.
I would think he is ready for a single bed.

no specific age but i would say the best answer is..if they have no accidents in there sleep than a regular bed is fine, if they still pee the bed- keep them in the toddler bed until they physically outgrow the bed,that way you'll have more time to get the bladder working

if you have a kid that moves around alot in thier sleep it may also be better to keep them in a bed closer to the ground, but they do make mesh sides to put on a regular bed,and you can put one side up against the wall.

my son went to a regular bed at age 3,mostly because we moved out of state and didn't pack the toddler bed and didn't see any reason in buying a new one, seemed to make sence to get one he wouldn't grow out of since he was so tall.
my daughter never had a toddler bed, she went to a regular mattress on the floor shortly after her first birthday because she was a crazy baby! she would climb on things and it scared me, she could get in or out of anything so i just layed the crib mattress on the floor until we moved and then got her a regular mattress,not sure when she got the frame..i think shortly after her 2cd birthday

my youngest is still in her toddler bed and will be until we move, she will be 3 in july. i don't want to have to pack anything so i plan on getting her a bed and put it right into where ever we move and selling the toddler one..she is pretty short,like 18th percentile so there is no chance of her outgrowing it anytime soon

My 3 oldest didn't have toddlers beds. They went to twin beds around 2 1/2- 3 years old. My youngest was about 3 when he outgrew his toddler bed.

That's my problem. DD is too big for bed, and doesn't look comfy. I'd say bed is servicable, but she keeps sleeping on the couch, claiming "bed too swmall, not feel good." Thank you for everyone's advise. I am going to start looking around Pittsburgh for a new bed. May not be able to pay for it all right away, so will look for a place with financing options. Anyways, really appreciate the help. Bed still in good condition, so will freecycle it once I have a replacement.
