Thread: Is it safe to use contact lens cleaning solution that expired?

I just found a bottle of my Opti-Free Express contact lens cleaner that has an exp. date of 9/2003. Anyone know if I should just throw it out or should it still be able to clean the contact lenses?

I think you should throw it out. don't play with you sight.

I use it all the time... since I can get it for $1 (because its expired) and I have never had any problems

I got some on Ebay that was expired and used about half of it before I even realized it. It worked fine.

I too have used expired contact solution. It's just saline. I've never had a problem.

I wouldn't if it is "very" out of date... buy a new bottle when you can..but that's just me.....

Don't you think your eye sight is worth $5-6? If you get an infection, you could wind up damaging your eyes and having doctor bills that are higher than a few dollars.

You can get Target brand for a few dollars.

I once had a bottle that was expired. It would irritate my eyes... I couldn't figure out what it was.. I thought it was my contacts until I changed contacts and realized it was still doing it. Then I looked at the expiration and I think it had only expired about a month or so. I immediately threw it away and got new solution. I think if you want to save money, just buy the walmart Equate version that is half the price of the Renu or other brand names. They do the same thing
