Got this from my local station...
Oklahomans Considering Taking High-Paying Jobs In Iraq
Thursday April 15, 2004 6:45pm
Tulsa - As the war continues there is a growing need for more soldiers. But, we found out there is also a need for more civilian workers to rebuild Iraq. NewsChannel 8's Kim Jackson discovered some Oklahomans are going to the war-torn country for some high paying jobs.
The jobs start out at about 85 thousand dollars a year up to 350-thousand dollars for nine months. We found one website that listed nearly five hundred jobs. They need everything from laundry workers to construction workers.
Gary Beam has three little girls, a wife and the comforts of home in Mannford. And, he makes a living as a traveling welder.
"It's been real slow here lately," he says.
So, he is considering taking a job in Iraq, making a lot of money, in nine months.
"Well, they tell me, about 350, good money about three to four times what I make here," he says. "I think that's where I'll go, if they'll let me go over there."
But, the heartstrings of home make it hard to go, considering he'd be working in a war zone.
"I'd be nervous about being shot," he says.
Welders like Gary are in demand. At the Tulsa Welding School, one graduate has already gone to work in Iraq.
"The companies hire skilled workers here and send them over there to work and do the jobs," says Irene Holtzhauer.
The school makes referrals to the companies that hire workers, from welders to security to construction workers to laundry workers. Many of these workers want to go, just like Gary does.
"I've got those three little girls and if I can make a lot of money for them, more power to me."
There are reports that up to sixty civilians from different countries have been killed while working in Iraq. Halliburton and Kellogg Brown and Root are U.S. companies advertising jobs right now. They have lost seven civilian workers so far in Iraq.

Re: Would you?
My mom and i talked about this.. i think i would....
Every day I live I am more convinced that the waste of life lies in the love we have not given, the powers we have not used, the selfish prudence that will risk nothing and which, shirking pain, misses happiness as well.
