I just don't want to see her feelings hurt here. I don't think she was joking with us. If these garments are what she has to work with, and she can't wear jeans, then she'll be fine.

Mini, maybe if you tell us more what the occasion is, we can help? Obviously it's at least semi-dressy, if you can't wear jeans, right?

I'm so with you jaybird. It's ok to just give a yes or no opinion and try to help suggest something that may look better, but no need to ridicule.Golly!!! I hope your feelings haven't been hurt Mini, and if they were, just overlook it sweetie. Some people are just plain rude!

Don't want to seem mean or anything but it is not just the fact they clash (two diffent prints) the two don't (IMO) even match. You need to pick one color from either the skirt or shirt and go with it for the rest of the outfit. Somethign white would also look nice with either.

oh, honey! don't even go there. Not to hurt your feelings, but is there maybe a thrift store or something like that you could go look for another top or skirt to wear?
Thank you, Lord, for another ride around the sun!

I truly did not want to hurt someone's feelings and it was not my intention to ridicule Mini. I certainly hope I am more sensitive to other's feelings than that.

I guess I was going on the (lack of) information that she gave. She did state that it wasn't dressy.

If this is all she has to go with...then of course...the main thing is are you neat and clean? Those two things will go a long way in making a good impression.

First of all shes my mom OF COURSE shes gonna say something looks pretty. Secondly I DO NOT DRESS UP, I don't have tons of dresses and skirts like most girls do. I haven't even worn a dress or skirt for that matter in 6 years and i'm not an "outfit" person, I just throw on whatever I pick up(which i'm sure some of you do) So sorry if i'm not smart on what goes with what. Yes I do know the fact I posted and asked you guys I would get opinions and thats what I got and I thank you all for your opinions. The reason I said it's not fancy is because all we are doing is serving dessert to people, that's it, so no things do not have to really match. She just wanted us to dress up a little and not wear jeans. Not sure why you would think this was a joke I didn't say it was nor did I put a there. And Vertigo..this happens to be my clothes, not my moms, and I am 17, whatever that has to do with anything. Again TY all for your input. I on the other hand have decided to wear the skirt with a white top.

Oh Mini...I know that I am personally responsible for hurting your feelings. I'm so very sorry.

I'm a mother and I couldn't imagine telling my daughter (or son for that matter) that something looked good when it didn't. I always felt that it was one of my jobs to teach my children what things went together and what didn't. Most of us aren't born with a natural, great sense of style. It is something that must be taught to us. Sometimes, something wasn't to my taste...but at least it had to match. That's why I thought you might be teasing us. I couldn't imagine your mother saying the two were pretty together. This doesn't make her any less of a good mother...just different from me.

Now...I believe my children (both are grown now) are physically very beautiful...but that's something different from the clothes they wear. My children will tell you that I stopped them on more than one occasion by saying, "You aren't going to wear that in public, are you?" And the question wasn't because something was indecent or in poor taste...it was simply that it was a horrendous outfit that didn't match.

Based on your comments, you haven't had someone guide you as to how to pair up different clothes...different patterns...different colors, etc. It is not a question of being smart or not smart. You have also indicated that you don't care that much about clothes. More power to you!!! I wish I was more like that because clothes don't always make the person...regardless of what the platitude says!

Just my opinion...when someone wants you to dress up a little...that doesn't just mean wear a skirt or dress. It means wear a nice matching outfit.

Again, I apologize for hurting your feelings and hope that my explanation helps you understand where I was coming from.

Frankly...I thought both items were very nice...just not together!

I am sorry alos if I hurt your feelings. I don't think anyone wanted to hurt your feelings. And I agree with everything that Kelsey said in her post. She summed everything up better than i ever could.

i think they may have asked if it was a joke because it is so obvious it don't match. i also can't imagine telling my child it is pretty to spare her feelings because that just don't make good sense to allow your child to look like a clown, and honey that is what that outfit reminded me of. i am trying to be gentle here and not hurt feelings. i don't see any post on here either that seems to try to hurt your feelings, they seemed to be stating honest opinions on something that is obvious to everyone else.
