it just makes me so sad.
I am looking through the spca web site for around here and looking at all the wonderful dogs and cats. They have the dates that they were brought in, most have been there months. You look at the puppie and kittens and they are only there a little while and someone takes them.
The look on the cats or dogs face is so sad, To think the only "home" they have now is a little cage. THey dont have anyone to cuddle up to on the couch or to play with in the back yard or to get all excited cause his/her family is home from work/school.
I know I am getting myself all upset about this and there really isnt anything I can do. So many people just dont care and they keep letting there dog/cat breed and just get rid of the litter anyhow they can. Or they just drop them off on the side of the road.
This is the main reason why we adopted a pet and will only get a grown dog/cat. To many of them have never known what it is like to be a part of a family, it is so sad.
Dogs are a mans/womans best friend? then why arent more men/women being their dogs best friend?
Sorry if I offended anyone with this, it just bothers me. I wish I coud take them all in and give them all the love they can handle, and then some.

(((((ttisten))))) I feel the same way. There are a lot of people that will take an adult pet but most people want babies.
Some people just don't think (or care) about getting their cat/dog neutered or spayed either. Especially males b/c they don't bring home the babies.

All of my animals came from the ASPCA and so will the next ones. I would like to add a new dog to the group but I think I will wait a year or so. I love my girls.
GET YOUR ANIMALS NEUTERED OR SPAYED SO THE REST OF US DON'T HAVE TO TAKE IN YOUR LITTER OR KNOW THAT THEY WERE PUT DOWN.
I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints.

I second this. Both of my cats were strays, and all the cats my parents and my inlaws have taken in over the years have been strays or shelter cats.

Me and my boyfriend are going to try to adopt a corgi once we get our own house. We wanted a puppy at first- but will probably adopt an older one because the older doggies don't get adopted most of the time.
OMG. I just went to petfinder because I like to look at the dogs there and found the cutest dog. She's close by here, but I already know we can't take in another dog- she's a corgi/pug and only has one eye.

I total agree, people really need to fix thier animals when they get them. The over population is not just dogs and cats, people seem to forget the little guys. Several area shelters are in need of people to adopt hamsters, gerbils, mice, rats, and even guinea pigs. I have several small fur-babies that were adopted or even found as strays. So next time you want to get a small pet try calling around to your local shelters and see if they have any.
I have great respect for anyone who adopts an older pet. I worked for a no kill shelter and they couldn't keep puppies or kittens because that's what everyone wants. Those animals in their golden yrs, deserve a home just as much as the babies.

I don't think most people think about the small pets at shelters. About a month ago my hubby found a baby chinchilla in a box on the side of the road. I am sure if the trash would have come by they would have just tossed it in the truck, cause there weren't any hokes in it or anything. The poor thing was cold, hungry and thirsty. Thanks goodness our neighbor raises them and was able to take it in. I think people leaving them on the side of the road irks me more than taking them to a shelter. Not that that is a good choice either, I guess it is the lesser of two evils in some cases.

your right most people don't think about the small animals being at shelters, but they get dropped off almost as much as dogs and cats. I had a friend call me one day freaking out cause her kids had found a guinea pig loose in the woods. Knowing my friend like I do I figured it was a groundhog or something, but sure enough I got there and it was a guinea pig. Biggest fella I'd ever seen, he's huge. He was in pretty good shape and real friendly so I brought him home. He's still with me and is the biggest baby.
If you go to petfinder.org you can look at all kinds of animals that shelters have, from dogs and cats to farm animals. Of course not all of them were turned over some were removed from thier home.

Crazy Cat Lady
Yeah,I look on petfinder quite a bit.I don't know why because I just upset myself terribly because I know I can't take in anymore either.I already have 12 kitties now.
I absolutely HATE when people keep letting their dog or cat have litters on top of litters.
I hear the excuse "I don't have the money" ALL the time.I am soooooo sick of hearing this,I swear one of these days when someone tells me that I'm gonna snap.It is a ONE time cost and if you can't afford it you DO NOT need the animal. That's just the way I feel about it.
Everyone take a look at the video in my siggie.Bring tissues.

I agree- if you can't afford that one time cost to get the pet fixed, are you going to be able to afford to buy it food for the rest of it's life time, toys, a litter box if it's a cat, a leash and pay for the license if it's a dog... I don't think a lot of people realize that when they buy pets.
I liked the video in your siggy.
