    Meal memories

What is your favourite meal? Do you have any funny food stories? I can't really pick one favourite meal so here goes: I make a lot of Italian food, so I love that 'stuff'...and I really love southern food like country fried steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, cornbread, iced tea, green beans, etc.

A food memory: my grandfather ("Pop Pop"), may he rest in peace, would try to steal our rolls from our plates...my grandmother ("Granno"), may she rest in peace, used to make rolls she would call "pocketbook" rolls and they were the best!

My favorite meal to this day is:

    pinto beans with dumplings
    cornbread
    wilted lettuce salad

I loved the holidays because at Thanksgiving we would go to my aunt's house and there would be country ham. Christmas we stayed home and there would be country ham. Dec 27th we went to my grandparent's to celebrate my grandfather's birthday and there would be country ham, and New Year's day we would go to my great aunt's and there would be country ham. That was enough country ham to last me until it was Thanksgiving again

My favorite is a breakfast meal, we used to do it alot of dinner though.

    Chocolate gravy with biscuits
    Fried salt pork or bacon

Hmmmm, just thinking about it makes my mouth water.

Roast beef always makes me think of my grandma - she cooked the best roast beef in a pressure cooker! And my grandfather (her husband) often picked me up from grade school and would ALWAYS take me by McDonald's for a hamburger and fries. That still makes me feel good today :-)

My grandmother's house always smelled of bacon frying. The woman ate bacon and eggs fried in the bacon grease, two pieces of toast and hot tea every morning for breakfast. She lived to be 96 and died peacefully in her sleep and her doctor never gave her heck for her cholesterol levels.
I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints.
