I am so proud of my daughter!!
If this isn't a comeback I don't know what is.....
Last year in the 1st grade my daughter could not read...seriously. She would literally memorize word for word whatever story they were reading. Well after I finally convinced her teachers that she couldn't read it was already halfway through the school year so they spent the rest of the year working individually with my daughter to try to get her caught up some. I took it a step further and bought her the hooked on phonics program to use during the summer. Well this year(2nd grade) she has really blossomed. Last week she was awarded for citizenship, superintendants list(all A's), having the highest yearly grade average in her class(she tied with her best friend on this), and she also got a medallion for having the highest Accelerated Reading score in her class!!! She was proud as a peacock yesterday when I picked her up. She was wearing that medallion around her neck like it was an olympic gold medal lol. I guess to her it was gold b/c she told me that they took a picture of her wearing her medallion to put in the local paper lol.
Sorry this is so long but I am so proud of her I just had to bragOver at Mad- forum .com (no spaces)!

That is really awesome!
Every day I live I am more convinced that the waste of life lies in the love we have not given, the powers we have not used, the selfish prudence that will risk nothing and which, shirking pain, misses happiness as well.

That is awesome. She deserves it. I am telling you I know where you are coming from on this one. They were teaching my child to memorize and not read while I was working on his reading skills. When she sent home a progress report saying he needed improvement in his recognition I went to talk to her. She told me plain and simple it wasn't her job to teach him to read that wasn't in her cirriculum well who's job is it? oh the 1st grade teacher I told her it was her job! however, I did teach him to read not to memorize what a word looked like. I wanted him to be able to sound out letters and if they were wrong we could work on it. I was irrate and I wanted to fire her...LOL...I am really glad your child is doing so wonderfully.

It is so great when kids feel good about something they accomplished and get rewarded for it. Shows em their efforts weren't for nothing. WTG dd!
