We pay $258 a year for liability and property damage auto insurance. I am in Illinois.

I used to pay $900 a year for full coverage along with sign and drive assistance with car rental.

I was looking at that. Why would LA be so expensive?

Because we are surrounded by states that do NOT require insurance - while our state does. If I get hit by someone who "lives" in MS who is not required to have insurance I am screwed. If I am hit by someone who falsified their insurance, I am screwed. Once was hit by an old man who gave as "proof of insurance" a rumpled up piece of yellow tablet paper w/ his "information" all of which turned out to be fake. The State Trooper didn't cite him for "No Proof of Insurance" because he had a piece of paper.... turned out the name, address, Insurer ... everything was fake... and it all came out of MY insurance... and my rates went UP.

Well Pa is in the middle, not too bad I guess. I however pay 1314 a year for a 2001 ford ranger and a 2001 ford escort xz2 with full coverage on both. Which is approximately 54.75 a month for each vehicle.

I did not know that some states do not require you to buy car insurance, that is just obsurd to me, what do people do that get into fender benders, or wrecks or something, do they all go around suing eachother?

yep. They recently passed a law that if you don't have insurance then you can't sue the other person in a wreck. Sounds fair.

Going in the direction of 'fair', but IMO, still not 'fair'.

What happens if you were a passenger?
