    Prescription Discounts....

I saw this advertised on tv last night.

    https://www.goodrx.com/

Type in the name of your prescription, and it tells you where you can get it at a discount, with coupon.

    Worth a try!

I checked this out a few weeks ago. It was interesting to see the wide range of pricing for my steroid cream, and the savings I could receive at various locations. I was surprised that the pharmacy in my grocery store was participating, and asked if they did honor the coupon - they said yes. It was significantly cheaper than the drugstore that I had been using, even with the Good Rx coupon there. So I had my dermatologist phone in my prescription to them.

As luck would have it, my prescription was even cheaper at that location (grocery store) WITHOUT the coupon Plus, I got a $20 store credit which was applied to my grocery shopping that I did after picking up my prescription! It pays to shop around.

I've seen them on TV and wondered about them, I will defiantly check this out. One thing we always do when we see the Dr is to ask if they have any samples for the prescriptions we use, the Pharm Reps are there all the time leaving samples and cards for discounts. Several years ago when my husband wasn't working my Dr gave me 2 months of Nexium samples a real life saver. Last year we got 2 discounts for Eliquis one was for a free 30 day and the other gives us a 2 years supply for $10 a month, much cheaper than our insurance. But we needed to ask the nurse. Another thing is to ask if they have the prescription in over the counter, one of the generic acid reflux meds is now less expensive as a CVS store brand.
Also if you have a pet and they need medicine ask the Vet if you can use human medicine, 20 years ago our dog had an allergy and the medicine from the Vet was very expensive, I told him our financial situation and if there was an alternative, he told us Benadryl was safe for our size and breed of dog. Saved us a fortune. Not all medicine for humans can be used on pets, I think it's ibuprofen that can shut down their kidneys, but I used children's aspirin for a little while when my dog was getting up in years before we went to the Rimadyl which worked beautifully.

I've also noticed on FB that RetailMeNot offers discounts on medications - but I haven't checked it out myself. I have found other deals at RetailMeNot - saved me about 20-25% on the purchase of a wedding gift, and another code for free shipping, from Williams Sonoma (which can be a little pricey).

If you belong to Sams club there are 5 prescriptions you can get for free, we don't use any of those but when we get a new prescription we check around to see where the best deal is. There were a couple of stores that had antibiotics for free, one was Schnucks. A couple years ago I was talking to the guy at Subway (I went there once a week) and he needed to get antibiotics filled for a tooth problem and I mentioned that he should call around, I can't remember if he got them at Target or Walmart for free or at a greatly reduced price but it always pays to check around.

yes, I always recommend the GoodRx card, it can be cheaper than using insurance. I ave an insur plan, but for some of the more expensive items, it really pays to use GoodRx

I used this card yesterday, and saved $66!!

I had to transfer to another pharmacy, but well worth it!

My sweetie used to get his prescriptions filled at Rite-Aid, and had used Simple Care (ads with Martin Sheen), but they stopped taking it. I had him move his prescriptions to the Meijer pharmacy and used Good Rx, and saved a lot. I had looked on their website, and it was slightly cheaper at Kroger, but I rarely go there. It does pay to shop around and compare programs.

Edited to add: And in my little bit of research, the Good Rx savings was better than the Simple Care savings.

I've looked up several of my husband's meds but never found anything that was cheaper than our insurance mail in program. But it's always worth checking for discounts on anything!

One of my husband's medicines was no longer covered with the new insurance and was going to be in the $300 range, it had been prescribed by his Dr and worked well for something that wasn't on the insurance list of issues that this medicine could help with. I love how the insurance company can make this decision and not his physician so the pharmacy checked with the GoodRX site and we got it for $36 a month. Well worth it.

Did anyone else get a plastic card in the mail recently?? I don't remember giving them my name and address, but I got a card in the mail yesterday.
